Radiohead
King of the Limbs - Hostess 2011 Comments:I don't really know why I still continue. I guess I forget that the time with "The Bends" and "OK Computer" is over. I had a bit of a shock when I, without hearing anything of the album beforehand, bought “Kid A” when it had just been released in 2000. There was actually nothing really on this, otherwise very acclaimed album that I could relate to. I skipped the sequel "Amnesiac" having read read that the numbers for this all were taken from the same sessions as "Kid A". I gave the group another chance with "Hail to the Thief" in 2003 and with my best postive specs I did find glimpses of the "old" Radiohead; nonetheless, I more or less lost interest in the group.
Now I sit here with "The King of Limbs" from 2011; and I have experienced a new disappointment - completely self-inflicted, as I should have known that the group would not return to conventional rock. It's just hard for me to understand that these talented musicians can feel the joy of music that is so introverted and inaccessible. I don't know anything about their current live repertoire, but I find it hard to imagine that this type of music can get up an audience.
As with "Hail to the Thief", there are 2-3 numbers that have slight reminiscences of what the group came from. "Feral" is a nice song with fine melodic guitar. Also "Give Up the Ghost", which reminds me a little of Big Star 3 and "Separator" have good parts.
