Lesley Gore
Sings of Mixed Up Hearts - Mercury 1963 Comments:“Sings of Mixed-Up Heart” was Lesley Gore’s second album, quickly following her debut, also released in 1963. Three succesful singles were pulled from the album “She’s a Fool”, “You Don’t Own Me” and “Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows”. The last was nor released until 1965 where it reached a position as no. 13. “You Don’t Own Me” was her biggest success and it is quite a powerful song.
Besides the singles I think “I Struck a Match”, “If That’s the Way You Want it, “Hello Young Lover” (Paul Anka) and “The Old Crowd” are quite good. Gore has a fine voice and shes uses it with great variation, and Quincy Jones’ arrangements are mostly very good.
