Bob Dylan
Nashville Skyline - CBS 1969 Comments:I remember not being very impressed when "Nashville Skyline" came out in 1969. There was not much left of the "Blonde on Blonde" Dylan that I was very fascinated by at this time. Between these two albums lies "John Wesley Harding", which I actually liked quite a bit, but which was significantly "softer" than its predecessor, but with a lot of country feeling.
There is plenty of country on "Nashville Skyline", which the title itself also indicates. It's a fairly short album with only ten tracks, none exceeding 4 minutes.
The album opens with a remake of "Girl From the North Country", where Dylan sings a duet with Johnny Cash. Not the most auspicious start for a non-Cash fan (at that point). Today I can easily hear that it is a really nice recording, which gives the old "Freewheelin" song a completely different life.
In fact, there are quite a few nice and very cozy love songs, which was also quite new on Dylan's part at the time.
Favorites are the singles "Lay Lady Lay" and "I Threw it all Away", both of which can be described as Dylan classics, and where Dylan sings in a "new" quite deep tone. There are also other really nice songs, among which I must highlight "To Be Alone With You", "One More Night", "Tell Me that it isn't True" and "Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You".
