Comments:

I bought this CD because of the, admittedly distant, relationship with the band Seatrain in which Andy Kulberg and Roy Blumenfeld later were members.

The group's name suggests a strong outlet in the blues, which was quite prevalent around 1966; eg. The Yardbirds, Ten Years After, John Mayall’s Blues Breakers and others. Labelling The Blues Project a pure blues band is far from entirely true, because the group shows on "Projections" a great variety in style and influnce. They range from garage rock (”I Can't Keep From Crying”), over folkish progressive (”Steve's Song”), jazzy instrumental (Flute Thing) to pure pop rock (”Cheryl's Going Home” and "Fly Away").

Basically, only "Two Trains Running" and "Caress Me Baby" are pure blues; by the way, both numbers are a little too long for my taste. My favorites are guitarist Steve Katz's fine "Steve's Song", the very catchy semi-classic "Cheryl's Going Home" and the fine pop song "Fly Away". I later found out that the group's kinship with Seatrain primarily is due to the fact that the group's next studio album "Planned Obsolescence" from 1968 was actually a Seatrain line-up album, but they had to release it as a Blues Project album for contractual reasons.
