Neil Young
Rust Never Sleeps - Reprise 1979Comments:This highly acclaimed live album from Neil Young was released in the wake of the punk rock that changed the rock-scene during 1976-19778. The punk influence on the electric part of the album is obvious with a very harsh guitar sound, and this is further emphasized by the mentioning of Johnny Rotten on the track "Hey, Hey, My, My".
The first part of the album is acoustic/unplugged with acoustic guitar and Young's vocals. Actually, the songs here are very classic Young as he sounded in the golden period around the album "Harvest".
The song "Hey, Hey, My, My" has more or less become synonymous with the album as the song both opens and closes the album - with an electric replay. Lyrically, the song also hits the time nicely by stating that rock will never die, even though it will continuously change with time, which in 1979 was personified by rebels like Johnny Rotten.
On the acoustic side, all tracks are fine; especially "Thrasher", "Pocahontas" and "Sail Away" stand out for me.
