Dido
Still on My Mind - BMG 2019 Comments:After the somewhat disappointing 2013 album "Girl Who Got Away" you may feel like calling this new Dido album a come-back. It is at least a return to the good melody which characterized her early albums; often with a solid base in folk music.
However, the electronic approach that characterized the predecessor is not abandoned and brother Rollo Armstrong has programmed the basic tracks for most songs. It can thus be a little difficult to really label Didos music; electro-people, electro-pop and synth-pop are terms you can come across.
On the other instrumental side you find, besides Dido's own guitar and keybords, contribution from Sister Bliss, Pete Rinaldi and Christopher Cooper.
As mentioned, the songs are, like on the excellent 2003 album "Life for Rent", built around the good melody; and several of these new songs could well have been written in the same period.
This especially goes for the best songs like "Chances", "Some Kind of Love", "Give You Up", "You Don't Need a Gun", "Still on My Mind", "Walking By" and "Have Two Stay ".
Great to hear new music from Dido, who does not spoil her audience with new albums every now and then.
