Comments:

All six albums from the original Doors are more or less fantastic; this also applies to the group's second album ”Strange Days” from 1967. Lead singer Jim Morrison is in top form and the group's compositions are strong and musically varied and innovative. At this point, all four members are credited for the songs; however, there is little doubt that Krieger and Morrison, as on the later albums, have had a main responsibility.

It opens atmospherically with the title track, on which a fun megaphone-like effect is added to Morrison's otherwise very strong vocals. On all the Doors' albums there are subdued melodic tracks; here we have "You're Lost Little Girl", "Unhappy Girl" and "I Can't See You Face in My Mind" - all three fine tracks, with the former as my favourite. There are of course also some more bluesy tracks such as the live favorite "Love Me Two Times" and "Moonlight Drive".

The two really big numbers, however, are "People are Strange" and the long, almost symphonic "When the Music's Over". The former became a successful single, while "When the Music's Over" continues the thread started on the debut album, the equally long (and strong) "The End"

There is also room for a couple of relative tipsters. "Horse Latitudes" is tedious, but fortunately short. "My Eyes Have Seen You" is just somewhat uninteresting.
