U2
The Unforgettable Fire - Island Records 1984 Comments:For their fourth album, U2 wanted to try something new that could give their music a different and more exciting sound. They chose hire Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois as producers on "The Unforgettable Fire".
This did give the band a different sound; but personally I don't think it's that striking. I have more concerns the songwriting in general on the album. I re-listened to "The Joshua Tree" a couple of days ago and was once again duped over the high level of the songs on that album. It inspired me to bring out "The Unforgettable Fire" again; and here I must confess that I was less impressed. In fact, I felt that 3-4 songs were really not very exciting and I came to the conclusion that the album has probably always been somewhat overrated. There are, of course, great numbers too; definitely. "Pride" is a classic and "Indian Summer Sky" and "Elvis Presley and America" are still among my U2 favorites.
