Yes
The Yes Album - Atlantic 1971 Comments:"The Yes Album" is a transition album from the early searching prog-rock Yes, to the mature Yes, who created classics such as "Fragile" and "Close to the Edge". In the line-up, keyboard player Tony Kaye has not yet been replaced by Rick Wakeman, and while he probably does not quite possess Wakeman's virtuosity, his contribution to the album is not insignificant.
The band became known for their long complex compositions, a virtue they already took up seriously here on "The Yes Album", where three tracks exceed eight minutes of playing time. The beautiful opening number "Yours is No Disgrace", which is a group composition, is one of these. After a hard-rocking intro follows a heavy organ and the number develops in classic Yes style with fine breaks, beautiful melodic vocals and fine guitar - both electric and acoustic. A highlight.
"The Clap" is an acoustic live recording with beautiful acoustic guitar by Steve Howe ".
"Starship Trooper" is another long complex number in three parts. There are again several exciting parts - heavy and lighter parts.
"I've Seen All Good People" is slightly folkish, with acapella vocals and acoustic guitar.
Jon Anderson's "A Venture" is one of the album's less notable tracks - which may appear a bit unfinished.
