Comments: There's no such thing as a bad Badfinger album. Apple of My Eye and Timeless are right up there with the best of Pete's songs. Icicles is a classic. It's disappointing that there are only 2 Pete songs on the album, but the other songs (mostly by Joey) are up to Badfinger's normal high standard. Ass didn't even get released on cd in Australia. My copy is an import, but I can say I was hanging out for its release for about 2 years and I was rapt to finally get a copy. Even though Do You Mind was a bonus track on the cd it deserved to be on the original release. It would have made a great single.
Comments: There are some parts of ASS that I like. My wife and I both love Joey's Icicles & I Can Love You. Tom has a beautiful song When I Say. Pete? Well I guess the grip on the reigns was sliding! I agree with the comparison as the White Album. Each member was having to deal with romance/marriage in life. My ears seem to hear a decent remaster on the CD, but like Sean Seiver mentioned I want the the GOLD disc instead! One last comment I would make is Headfirst is like the Let It Be LP in some ways. The sound is a bit raw, the tape trading around has snippets before the songs begin. Sort of a mixed bag at the time, but now it finally is getting out from Mike & Forbidden records!!!
Comments: Hi Badfinger Fans, I can't resist the opportunity to push this album. As a longtime
fan of the band since my high school days(1971), I've loved this band. I keep hearing that the
album ASS was a dud, or a flop. I take exception to these criticisms. This was a very good
effort. It fell short of STRAIGHT UP, and lacked sufficient Pete Ham contributions, but still
a very underrated LP. Lots of great guitar hooks and riffs. I prefer this album to the
critically acclaimed NO DICE, and I'm sure many disagree. Give it a serious listen with
headphones - maybe you'll hear Joey's hard work, and appreciate it a little more. Thanks for
the opportunity! M. Daly

Comments: I feel that ASS is really a mixed bag. Although it contained no real singles there
are some great moments. Apple of My Eye has always been a favorite of mine (anyone ever
notice that the Stone Temple Pilots ripped off the riff and used it in Lady Picture Show?)
along with Icicles. Not their strongest album but worth owning.
Comments: My opinion about ASS is that the tunes made by Pete and Tommy are the best,BUT there is one by Joey, Icicles, is also a good song. One of my all time favorits is Apple Of My Eye and also Timeless. ASS is a steady album with it´s up´s and downs but I do like it anyway. But the one thing I do not lik about it is Constitution it could go right to the gutter.
Comments: 'Magic Christian Music'comes in last...but there are several GREAT songs on that album. Next to last would be 'Ass'. Good music, but not my favorite. Once again some GREAT songs but... I am torn between 'Straight Up' and 'Wish You Were Here' as the two best. And 'Badfinger' and 'No Dice' are also very solid recordings. I feel that the first Warner release 'Badfinger' is underrated. All in all a very playable album.

Comments: I think Ass is a GREAT album, and I think the production on the original LP was fantastic. I don't quite agree that the re-issue sound is bad and I don't hear all that much difference. I always liked their heavier sound and this album had it all the way through. Those leads do fade out way too soon! I always hoped that there were studio tapes of them jamming on, but Kathy Molland said a while back that, unfortunately, the Blind Owl & Constitution leads are only three or four seconds longer on the masters than on the record. Too bad! I also think the packaging was awesome (I'm talking about the LP) with the whole inner sleeve with the donkey and the corrots. Really cool. Anyway, for almost every cut being perfect, this is one of my all time favorites by anyone, period!!
Comments: I think that the album Ass is Badfinger's White Album. I mean by that time they were using different instruments which made for very diverse songs and each member was developing into their own unique style. I think there could have been a decent single taken from the record....really any of them were worthy.... except for the quirky Cowboy and the droning Timeless, the songs were basically of the same caliber and could have stood up to what was popular at the time...Joey really comes out on this album and shines as a writer especially on Do You Mind and I Can Love You.I Love this album!!!

Comments: I basically agree with Sean, finally, it's a great record only there wasn't really a hit single on it. I've never liked Apple of My Eye. I can overlook the the sonic problems as I love to listen to old blues record from the twenties and compared to that anything sounds good.
Comments:
It was a horrendous reissue... The sonic quality was awful (can't wait to see a GOLD DISC
reissue on this!)
Though a good album it was hardly the punchy material that is expected out of the band in
its prime. Joey's compositions, though beautiful and out-and-out good songs, prove that he
wasn't the hit-tunesmith that Pete and Tom were. If he was, this was his chance to shine.
Pete really didn't have it on this disc (though Apple of My Eye is an emotional and honest
ballad, it was by no mean a single as much as a message to Apple).
Favorite tracks include: Icicles, I Can Love You, Apple of My Eye and Blind Owl (I think
Blind Owl was much better live). The bonus track of Do You Mind wasn't the best take -
there were better, but it's a nice and delicate song too. Cowboy didn't have the same vibe as
earlier recordings... It lost a bit of its hook with that damn wobble board!
Of course, I will be criticized for making any comment about Joey that leaves out the
statement that he's a rock and roll god, keeper of the Badfinger flame and the like, but that
can be expected of those who follow him. While Pete fans can take my criticism because we
know that honesty is the best policy.
Comments: I think Ass is a great album although it boggles my mind that Pete sang only two
compositions. I guess that makes it even with No Dice where Pete sings 8 numbers. I've
always liked 'Apple Of My Eye'. I remember in high school it was actually in the juke box
at the local pizzaria! I also heard it played once on WSAY radio around the time of it's
release date. Joey's songs are great rockers. I don't think Apple would have released 'Andy
Noris' or 'Island'. Apple obviously had strict control over Badfingers releases. It seems odd
because Apple released so many odd-ball singles from other artists. The only weak song may
be 'Cowboy' although I like Mike's voice. I think he should have sang all of his own
compositions, but when you have Pete Ham available I can see why Mike and or Badfinger
made specific choices as to who sang what! Timeless is still an undiscovered (by the general
public) masterpiece!
Comments: Ass is a great rock'n'roll record. There some of Badfinger's best rock moments on this album i.e. Timeless, Get Away,Blind Owl. The one thing missing, to me, is a single. The song I would have chosen for a single would have been When I Say or the unreleased Do You Mind. Apple of My Eye is one of my least favorite songs. If you don't like guts rock'n'roll, you won't like this as much as their more pop oriented albums. - Best of Times!
Comments: I am a huge Badfinger fan, but I feel that besides the Magic Christian Music, I think Ass is their weakest album. Even compared to post Pete albums. Sorry, but I just don't really like the album.
