The Finesse Game
Holzinger has a fine touch down low and patience with the puck to find the open passing lane. He needs to work with a grinder on one wing, because he is too small to do much effective work in the corners. He is not as gritty as a number of smaller forwards and plays too much on the perimeter. Holzinger is not a natural scorer but he has some speed, which he can learn to use to his advantage. He is crafty and deceptively quick. The key to Holzinger's development will be adding the little things to his game that make a complete player. He has to ask himself how he can contribute if he's not scoring. He can play, but can he win? He has a lot of raw talent, but at the moment he's an open-ice break player. He has a lot of hockey sense and may be adaptable. His defense has improved.

The Physical Game
Holzinger will have to work for his open ice in the NHL. He is not very big, nor very strong. Strength and conditioning work must figure in his summer vacation plans again.

The Intangibles
Lack of depth among the Sabres' corps of forwards leaves Holzinger as the number two centre almost by default. He needs to work on a number of his weak points to keep that job if and when the team improves.

Projection
Holzinger will probably get enough ice time for 40 to 45 points, but he is not an impact player.
