In the Companion notes to the Book of Proverbs, it will be observed
that certain words are carefully discriminated: such as the words
for "fool", "poor"; the singular and plural of the wicked, the righteous,
&c., are noted. But certain proverbs also are presented in a
new light altogether. Among these are the following:
1:7. | "The fear of the LORD". |
1:17. | "In vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird". |
2:7. | "He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous". |
3:2, 16. | "Length of days" supposed to be given by "wisdom". See also 4:10; 9:11; 10:27. |
5:2. | "That thy lips may keep knowledge". |
5:14. | "Almost all in evil". |
16:1. | "The preparations of the heart in man...is from the LORD". |
21:1. | "The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD as the rivers of water". |
21:4 | "An high look, and a proud heart...is sin". |
