Orlin Stanoytchev is the best Bulgarian male tennis player and currently he is the only one that tours that much. Not very long ago he was playing in Challengers and Satellites only but with constant good play he made a real break through and found his place among the best tennis players in the world

This yeat, so far, is very good for Orlin. After a good play in the first tourney of the year and due to the new ATP ranking system he became the first Bulgarian to ever be ranked among the top 50, reaching personal best ranking of N31. He plays constantly good and is in the main draw of almost every big tourney, he had some great wins as well - over the N8 seeded Di Pasquale of France in Mexico city, for example.

However, his greatest success was in 1999, when he reached the 1/4 finals of an ATP event for first time in his career. To the 1/4 finals in Prague, he upset the N9 seeded Nicolas Lapenti. In 1999 Orlin won his first major title in Split, Croatia (a $100 000 event). At Wimbledon the same year he had a great match against Todd Woodbridge(a semifinalist and five times doubles champ in Wimbledon). Their match was a real battle and probably the most interesting first round match. Orlin lost it but he fighted really hard and the only thing that helped Woodbridge was his experiense in five set matches

Orlin is one of those players who are tough to play verses. Especially, if he takes the intiative. Then he becomes attacking and controlls the match. It becomes almost imposible for his opponent to win. The main weakness of Orlin is when he starts to doubt, then he starts to make many mistakes and most oftenly loses. As long as he plays confidently everything is OK and he controlls the match.

Orlin is the first raquet of the Bulgarian Davis Cup team. When he plays for Bulgaria he gives everything to win. And the lates success of our Davis Cup team is due to his good play. Now Orlin is living in Switzerland, but until recently he had been living in Sofia, Bulgaria
