Edwards rallies comeback win against Raiders
Bills now atop of the AFC at 3-0
Down by 9 points in the fourth quarter, the Bills rallied again to snatch
victory from the jaws of defeat.
Trent Edwards, who was having a horrid day, suddenly turned all that around and
drove the Bills down the field on two long drives that produced the ten points
the Bills needed for the win. By beating Oakland 24-23, the Bills are now 3-0
for the first time since 1992.
With the stunning Patriots loss to the Dolphins, the Bills now find themselves
all alone in the AFC East. Their next two opponents are the Rams and then the
Cardinals. The Bills can defeat both of these teams and be 5-0 when they have
their bye week.
Raiders tougher than predicted
This wasn't supposed to happen. The Bills were supposed to manhandle the
lowly-rated Oakland Raiders. What happened on the field was the exact opposite
of what most were expecting. The Raiders came out strong, put a lot of pressure
on Bills quarterback Trent Edwards and were stopping the run.
Turnovers cost the Bills and suddenly the Raiders started to expand their lead
on the home team. Up 23-14 in the fourth quarter, Edwards had to rally his
troops and produce two scoring drives. That's exactly what the second year QB
did in helping the Bills pull out in the nail biter.
How long has it been since the Buffalo Bills have been alone in first place
in the AFC East? It must be over a decade since they have found themselves in
this position. What's more, they haven't started off the season 3-0 since their
Super Bowl run.
Edwards leads comeback again
Trent Edwards is looking more and more like the real deal. For the second straight week, he led the Bills down the field in a gallant comeback effort. Not since the days of Jim Kelly have the Bills had a quarterback who can deliver a comeback like this.
Edwards had a rough afternoon until the fourth quarter when he suddenly got it together and started firing bullets. When it was all said and done and the Bills had their 3rd straight victory, Edwards was 24 out of 39 for 279 yards. He had one TD pass to Lee Evans and one pick.
Bills perfect record on the line at St. Louis
Next week it’s off to St. Louis to play the Rams. The Rams haven’t won a game yet, but they could prove a big challenge, just like the Raiders did. If the Bills can beat St. Louis (they’re already 9 point favorites, just like they were against the Raiders), then they will try to keep their streak alive in Arizona the next week.
The Jets were blasted by the Chargers on MNF, so the Bills can cherish this moment while it. lasts.
