I've spent a lot of long nights sitting in my familiar folding chair next to the Black Mailbox. My eyes intently focused on the horizon, my vision enhanced by binoculars, or night vision, or whatever optics I might have at my disposal.
In the winter the temperature plummets
soon after the sun has disappeared behind the
horizon. An icy bite lingers in the air that
pierces the heaviest garmet and sends chills
straight to the bone. In the summer the
nightfall brings comforting relief from the
torturous desert sun, however the arid
dryness of the the Tikaboo Valley is not so
easily escaped.
There are many refreshing beverages
avalible to the prospective sky watcher that
will help sooth the parched pallet on these
long summer nights. Some
choose from the endless parade soft drinks
and iced teas while others opt for the
caffeinated benifits coffee. As for myself, I
usually go with a good old fashion beer. But
not just any beer, a finely crafted Mexican
Beer!
Ah yes, the Mexican Beer. I've sampled
beers from all over the world and nothing
compares. To the prospetive Mexican beer
drinker the number of choices can seem
overwhelming. Most are good, some are great,
and unfourtunatly a few, just a few, down
right suck! For those of you out there who
haven't had the joy of experiencing a mexican
beer I will break it down for you.
Dos Equis: Simply the
greatest beer ever made. Well balanced and
smooth with an unforgetable after-taste. This
of course refers to the "Amber Lager", and
not the "Special Lager" which is only a half
step above the yak-piss we produce here in
America.
Corona: A pleasant beer with
a nice crispness to it that isn't
overwhelming. Make sure you have a lime wedge
handy if you choose this one.
Carta Blanca: A nice and
smooth brew thats not to dark and not to
light. It seems to have a little extra of
whatever that magic ingredient is that makes
a Mexican beer a Mexican beer.
Bohemia: Not a bad beer, but
a little too bitter for my taste. Worth
giving a try.
Negro Modelo: A dark
Mexican beer, it almost seems like an
oxymoron. All and all its not bad, but if
dark beer is your thing you'd probebly have
better luck looking for something German.
Sol: What the hell is this?
A wanna-be Corona? I think its flavored with
used gym socks.
Chihuahua: The begineers
beer, extremly light. Not for everyone.
Tecate: What the hell is a
MEXICAN BEER doing in a CAN? The south of the
border equivilant of Budwiser. Avoid at all
costs! An anal probe from some bug-eyed
aliens is nothing next to the horror that is
Tecate!
Azteca: Pretty damn good,
doesn't really taste like a Mexican beer in
the traditional sense, but theres still a
definate Mexican flaire to it.
Tequiza: Brewed by
Anheiser-Bush, 'nuff said. I don't even know
if this techinally quailifies as beer, at
least on this planet.
Remember to drink your Mailbox Brewski's responsibly, always have a designated driver.
