In the great expanse of the desert, along
a lonely road
now known as
"The Extra-Terrestial Highway" (formly known
as route 375)
among the cattle
who graze openly along side the road and the
occasional
Josha tree, there
rests a landmark known the world over by
Ufologists. It is
nothing out of
the ordinary, and it is certainly nothing
"other worldly."
In fact it bears
no signifacance what-so-ever, other than it
is the only
scenery that the
occasional passer-by will see after he or she
turns onto
The Extra-Terrestrial
Highway to make there trek towards Rachel.
Being that this is the only landmark one
will find on
this stretch of
highway it has become a gathering point for
UFO
enthusiasts.
From here one can view the skys above Area 51
which are
over 20 miles away.
Although still commonly refered to as "The
Black Mailbox"
the original
mailbox has now been replaced with a white
one in a vain
attempt by its owner
(a local rancher) to disassociate it with its
historical
roots in Area 51
folklore. The fresh white surface however,
has provided
eager onlookers with
a place to leave there mark. The most obvious
of these
"marks" is the word
"Dreamland" inscribed vertically on the side.
Other
messages range from
"Friends of Venus" to "Waiting for the
mothership" to a
cartoon depiction of
an alien saying "Cool, intergalactic
junkmail."
From this vantage point many people claim to have witnessed "real" UFO'S performing maneuvers that are decades beyond our current aviational capabilities. Some people actually claim that these maneuvers defy our "known laws of physics." Some new age thinkers belief that this spot is ripe with cosmic energy.
