Pyramid Lake Nevada

Pyramid Lake is located 35 miles northeast of Reno Nevada on the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribes'reservation.The lake is 15 miles long and 11 miles wide and is 350 feet deep.It's treeless shoreline consists of sandy beaches and strange but beautiful tufa formations.I never tire of its stark beauty and the lakes' many moods. In the lakes clear alkaline water some of the wests' largest Cutthroat trout can be caught.3 Nevada state record fish have been taken from these waters:A 41 pound Cutthroat,A 24# 10oz Bowcutt{cross between cutthroat&rainbow}and a 4 # 9oz sacramento pearch.Every season many fish between 10 & 20 pounds are caught.Fishing season runs,Oct 1 to June 30.Special permits are needed for fishing, camping, and boating. These can be obtained from the Pyramid Lake store or the marina located on the west side of the lake.Artifical baits only! Best fishing occurs in spring and fall.2 fish limit fish between 19 & 24 in. must be released

Fish can be caught here in a varity of ways:

Trolling:

Use flatfish,torpedo spoons,rapalas,in Red, Green, Silver, Rainbow colors. Vary your depth and trolling speed.When boating Pyramid keep your eye on the weather it can change FAST going from dead calm to small craft warnings in a very short time.

Spincasting from shore:

Waders are very helpful Use casting spoons or heavy deep diving crank baits in, Green,Red,silver,white,rainbow colors.

Fly fishing:

Waders are a must, some people also stand on a 4 or 5 foot ladder to get out of the cold water and to increase the casting distance.You need a good long distance rod and line.Good flies are woolly worms in green, black, purple,With very short or no tail.

Pyramid lake should be on every Nevada fishermans'list of places to go
