Trout can be caught from shore all along the Nevada side of the lake where ever there is access.Rainbows cruise the rocky shore line in loosly associated schools looking for minnows and crawdads to eat.Lake trout also may be caught from the shore in the fall. Minnows are great bait for both of these fish. They may be taken from the lake with a minnow trap. Casting spoons also work well in bright red or green,or blue and silver.
Trolling is very productive here but as of 1999 all 2 stroke engines over 10 hp are banned from the lake to help keep the lake cleaner. Lake trout are usually caught with downrigers, poles with lead core or steel wire line and other deep water equipment. Jigging also works well. They usually are caught between 100 to 200 or more feet in depth, along drop offs and rocky humps you need a good depth finder. Lake trout arent too smart, once you find them they will bite on minnows or luers that resemble minnows if you can get them down to them and drag the bait in front of their face. Rainbows and other trout can be caught top lining by the shore or points using spoons, flatfish, rapalas or attractor rigs. Use wedding rings or small needle fish and spoons to catch Kokanee salmon off shore from the lakes major tributarys Use your depth finder to find the large schools of these fish.
There are many towns and marinas all around lake Tahoe where all types of services, supplies and info may be obtained also there are quite a few charter boats and guides available.
