Walker lake

Walker lake lies at the base of Mt.Grant about 1 hour drive south of Fallon NV.on highway 95 on the way to Las Vegas. Fed by the Walker river its clear waters are home of some of Nevada's large Cutthroat trout.The fishery is managed by the NV. div. of Wildlife and is stocked regularly, the trout soon grow to trophy size in the lakes waters.The average fish seems to be around 2 to 3 pounds with many more 5 & 6 pounders caught every year.There is a fishing derby every Thanksgiving with some nice cash prizes awarded to lucky fishermen.

Creel limits in Walker are 5 trout and a Nevada fishing license is required, the license and other needed supplies can be bought in Hawthorne Nv. at the south end of the lake.There are also motels,stores ,marine supplies,casinos,and a golf course there.Various methods are used to fish Walker:

Trolling:

Use torpedo or daredevil type spoons in red, green,silver,frog colors,rapalas and flatfish also work

Shore fishing:

Bait is allowed and works well here power bait,salmon eggs and marshmallows,worms all work,people also do well with artificals,casting spoons,diveing crank baits,and rooster tails work. The west shore is where most people fish and is acsessable to most vehicles.
