Wildhorse Res.

Wildhorse res. is located 65 miles north of Elko Nv. on highway 225 (the mountain city hiway). It is one of Nevada's most well known and favorite fishing holes.The lake is visited by people from all over Nevada and surrounding states. There are 3 developed campgrounds, 2 boat launching ramps,and the Wildhorse resort with rooms, supplies and info at the lake. You can also camp just about anywhere along the shore of the lake for $3.00 a nite.

There are many kinds of fish to be caught at Wildhorse, where the fishing is open all year for: Trout, Pearch, Crappie, and Catfish.

Bass fishing season runs from July 1 to March 1. limit 5, 11" minimum size. To allow them to spawn,the season is closed Mar-June

Trout are the most sought after here. The lake is home to Rainbows, Browns, and Cutthroats up to 8 pounds or more. With many fish around 2 to 3 pounds and is stocked regularly with 10 to 12 inchers. Just about all methods to catch trout work here.

Good baits are: worms, powerbait, corn, live minnows are illeagal

Good Luers: Spoons in red or blue and silver. Minnow immatators like Rapalas, and spinners like rooster tails in black or yellow. With the many different kinds of trout here try many different luers.They do not all feed on the same thing. I catch many nice size Browns on crankbaits and jigs designed for bass. Dont be afraid to experiment it may pay off. Spring and fall are the best times to fish

Wet flies also work well here for trout and bass. Use a sinking line. Green or black wooly worms, bead heads or other nymphs with od green body work. Bass like black hairy things, maribous and zug bugs. October is the best time to fly fish for trout here, often you will get a hit every cast. Bring your float tube.

Bass: Fish for bass with small brown or black jigs around rock piles. Cream worms also work.

Perch:Located all around the lake they are caught with worms,grubs,and small jigs and luers. There is no limit on the perch so catch all you can

Catfish:Usually caught in the back of coves on worms or chicken liverat night. Channel cats up to 17 lbs have been caught here.

Wildhorse is also a popular ice fishing spot. The fishing can be excelent at times for trout and perch.The Wildhorse resort holds a fishing derby around presidents day with many thousands of dollars in prize money to be won.
