I don't own Rayearth blah, blah, blah, ext, ext . . . and this story picks up when the girls are about to revive Selece, just so ya’ know, I won’t write about the meeting of Fuu and Ferio, or the whole desert thing, that is unless you want me too. Feedback is welcomed, very welcomed.

The Only Battle Worth Fighting: part 1

Rated: PG for stuff.

Whistling as I walk at a steady pace on a worn, gravel road with my sword draped over my shoulder and my pack resting in the crook of my arm. Paying no head to the passing scenery, the wildlife beginning to come out as the sun began to set, they meant nothing to me. I had only on thing on my mind. Her. She’s occupied my mind constantly since I’ve met her. I often wonder about how she is, if she’s hurt, dying somewhere, or not eating right, but I had found ways to assure myself she isn’t hurt, I sometimes forget she has healing powers. I know she can’t be dying, Hikaru wouldn’t stand for it, and about her nutrition, well, I think I go a bit overboard with the worrying sometimes. I often think about calling her, but what could I say?

‘Hi, Fuu! How are you? I’m okay I suppose, thinking about you a lot, are you eating right?’

Oh yeah, that’s smooth. I like worrying about her though, because I know she worries about me too. Fuu found out that I was following her little jamboree of friends a while ago, and ever since then she has left food behind for me at each of her campsites, not to mention a blanket, pillow, and other things occasionally. She’s so sweet. I dug into my pocket and pulled out the small object inside, I flipped the switch on the side and attached it to my collar by the clip on the side. Moments later I heard Umi’s voice, she was complaining, as usual.

"MOKONA! YOU MEAN TO TELL ME YOU HAVE HAD A MAP ALL THIS TIME, AND THE THOUGHT OF TELLING US NEVER CROSSED YOU FUZZY LITTLE MIND?!?"

"I’m sure Mokona didn’t mean not to show it earlier Umi-chan, but we have been busy after all, I mean, getting our weapons and going through the desert!"

"That’s right, and besides that Umi-san Mokona-san has led us only in the right direction since we began our mission," a mousy voice popped in, the voice that belonged to his Fuu.

"Yes, that’s true, but . . . WHY DOES THE RIGHT DIRECTION ALWAYS LEAD US INTO MONSTERS?! CAN’T WE WALK AROUND THE MONSTER INFEASTED AREAS?!"

"Umi-chan, Mokona can’t help it! So stop blaming . . . her? . . . err . . . him? . . . umm . . . it. Let’s talk about something besides eating Mokona, okay? So Fuu . . . ummm . . . how’s it going with Ferio," Hikaru asked.

Umi stopped fuming and looked immediately interested in the new conversation that had sprung up, Hikaru knew it would make her stop chasing Mokona, for now that is, for Umi had to passions in life, making people do what she wanted, and matchmaking. She often refers to Fuu and Ferio as ‘Her Greatest Match Ever!’, winning a grin from Ferio and a bright red blush from Fuu. Umi, being the thoughtful person that she is, wants to know all about their ‘eternal romance’ to make sure it’s going all right.

"Yes, good idea Hikaru, so, Fuu, How is loverboy? Confessed your undying love for him yet?," Umi prodded while throwing her ‘innocent’ smile in Fuu’s direction, and Fuu really wished she would stop, she looked really scary like that. Her canine teeth reminding her of fangs when she grinned that grin.

"Oh, do tell Fuu! Do tell!," Hikaru urged. Fuu glared at the redhead. When she’s asleep her hand is going into bowl of warm water. Fuu smiled to herself at that. Revenge was sweet, oh, so sweet.

Fuu knew Ferio was listening to their conversation by the quite chime that sounded. He often did it, she assumed he was lonely or bored, or both maybe, she didn’t know, she never called him. She was to shy. This made her predicament even more tense and awkward, well, for her anyway, Fuu was sure Umi and Hikaru were enjoying making her as uncomfortable as possible, and she knew they wouldn’t stop bugging her about it until she told them something. How was she going to get out of this one?

Ferio grinned; this was getting interesting, very interesting. Unclipping the broach from his collar he brought it up to his ear, wanting to make sure he would hear everything Fuu would say about him.

Fuu, being the resourceful girl that she is, made a grab for Mokona, and successfully captured it on account of Mokona not expecting for Fuu to try something so . . .so . . . Umi-like. Reaching into her pocket she pulled out the orb, the twin of the one Ferio had, and shoved it into Mokona’s mouth. Mokona tried to ‘Puu’ in protest, but it was in vain, it came out muffled, because out to orb and Fuu’s hand covering it’s mouth, preventing the rabbit from spitting it out.

"He’s doing well, and no, I haven’t confessed my ‘undying love’ for him, but I do like him, just not that much, yet," Fuu spit out hurriedly, Mokona was turning blue, she suspected she was cutting off it’s only way to intake air, I had no nose after all. Sticking her hand back into its mouth she pulled out the orb and wiped a bit of spittle of it, and her hand, and pocketed the gem again.

Ferio was a bit surprised hat gem was on the blink like that, when he should of heard Fuu, he instead heard a strange gurgling and whining sound, it had never done that before. Was it broken? He shook it a bit and it chimed again, telling Ferio everything was okay. Ferio furrowed his eyebrows in confusion and shrugged his shoulders, oh well; it was no big deal. Fuu would tell him how she felt, how he knew she felt for him, when she was ready. He pressed the button on the gem again, turning it off, the girls needed their privacy, besides, he would see Fuu tonight, as always.

Hikaru yawned as she chewed on a roll in the tent provided by Mokona, dusk had fallen and the Magic Knights had settled down for the night, all so tired they didn’t even change into the night clothes that were neatly folded on the bed for them.

"Gross Hikaru, If your going to chew, chew with your mouth closed, and if your going to yawn with food in your mouth, go outside," Umi whined.

Hikaru shot her a glare and mischievous smile as she took another large bite of the roll and chewed, with her mouth closed, and Umi nodded her appreciation. Hikaru took that moment to stick out her toung, chewed roll and all, inches in front of Umi’s face, which triggered a scream from Umi, which woke Fuu up. The Wind Knight looked at her companions with disinterest as Umi pulled out a mallet, from who knows where, and began chasing after Hikaru, who looked like she might be choking on the roll she was eating. Fuu rolled her eyes and messily folded her blanket and grabbed her pillow and began to walk to the door; Umi stopped attempting to dislodge the offending bread product from Hikaru’s windpipe, to acknowledge Fuu’s escapade outside.

"Where are you going to Fuu," Asked Umi, giving another compression to Hikaru’s midsection, winning a sputter and hack from the redhead as she spit the bread clear across the room, where it stuck to the wall with a sickening ‘splut’. Hikaru began to return to her normal color, instead of the faint blue she used to be.

"I’m going out, away from you crazy people," She said with a smile.

"Fine, but if a monster eats you don’t come crying to us ‘crazy people’ about it," teased Umi.

"But Umi, if Fuu gets eaten by a monster, how can she come crying to us," Inquired Hikaru. Umi glanced at her with an annoyed look etched across her face, and tried to explain it to her.

"That’s the point Hikaru, she can’t come to us, I was joking"

"Oh," Hikaru said with a bit of understanding, then that befuddled look that she always wore came back onto her face. "I still don’t get it"

Umi looked as if she was about to explode, Fuu decided to leave then, so that no harm would befall her, she took Mokona as well, just in case Umi returned to her normal habit of releasing her tension and anger by beating up the little puffball. She soundlessly closed the door behind her, well, she thought silently, but truth be told she wouldn’t have heard it over all the crashing inside,

Fuu cringed as she heard another breaking sound from the egg-shaped dome ‘ There goes that nice vase. I feel some what bad leaving Hikaru to face that alone, but I know not to get into the middle of a cat fight’

Tossing down her pillow and shaking out her blanket to its full size she laid down and closed her eyes and was about to drift to sleep when she head a rustling behind her. Eyes springing open immediately Fuu cursed herself for leaving her armor inside. Tossing off the sheets she stood up, fully awake and alert for any dangers there might be. Mabey it was a monster and she would die, and knowing Umi her tombstone would read . . .

‘Here lies Hououji Fuu Daughter, Sister, Friend, and Future Girlfriend. Cause of death, Severe Irony.’

Shaking her head of such thoughts, Fuu took a deep breath and readied herself for battle. Just then a familiar mop of hair came into view. Her shoulders sagged in relief as she heaved out a breath.

"Ferio you scared the living daylights out of me"

Ferio dropped his sword to the side embedding it into the ground by his right foot. He leaned on the hilt and smiled at Fuu, receiving her trademark blush in response.

"Sorry, didn’t think you would hear me, your senses have improved a great deal since you first came here"

"Thank you, I believe so as well, although my skills and instinct are no where near Umi-san and Hikaru-san’s level"

"Your too modest Fuu, you have greatly improved, if you admit it or not," Ferio smiled and took a few steps closer to Fuu, causing her to tense up immediately. He reached out to her, grasping her forearm and squeezed gently. She smiled up at him; Ferio smiled back and turned his attention to the tent behind them where crashes and Umi’s screams continued to sound. Ferio chuckled a bit and looked back to Fuu.

"I don’t blame you for trying to sleep out here, It looks like Umi’s finally snapped"

"It’ll die down soon, she’s been at it now for about half an hour, to top that off she probably ran out of things to break"

Ferio snorted with laughter, Fuu followed with a shy giggle and a smile. Ferio sobered up and looked to her sleeping area distastefully.

"Well, you might be safer out here, but definitely not warmer," He commented, picking up her pillow and blanket and walked off beckoning for her to follow. Fuu look a bit confused, but followed anyway with Mokona bouncing behind her. She brushed a tree limb aside and looked towards the direction Ferio trailed off to, Fuu was a bit surprised to see a nice fire going in the middle of a large clearing.

‘I shouldn’t be shocked that he knows how to start a fire, he has been living in the wilderness for a while now after all’

Fuu walked to the make shift campsite and sat down by the fire, she watched Ferio spread out her comforter and drop her pillow down a safe distance for the bonfire, and not so far from his sleeping spot either. A strong blush ran across her cheeks at the thought, she bit her lip trying as hard as she could to return her cheeks to their normal color.

Ferio plopped down on his bed and looked over to Fuu, she was blushing, as usual. He loved it when she did though, Ferio thought she looked gorgeous like that. He smiled and reached over to her blanket and patted on it gently, indicating her to join him. Fuu looked over to him a bit confused about how to react.

"Come over here and sit, I won’t bite, unless you want me too. For now I just want to talk," Ferio teased with a smirk. Fuu blushed and seemed to relax a bit as she walked over to him, sitting a polite distance away, but close enough for them to have a conversation without having to yell across the field to each other.

"So," Ferio began.

" . . . So?," Fuu asked him.

"How ya been?"

"Same ol’, same ol’, really. Wake up, kill monsters, go to sleep. I didn’t think being a Magic Knight would be so repetitive."

"At least you have Hikaru and Umi to keep you company, with them there everyday won’t be the same," he pointed out.

"I’m not sure if they will help me keep my sanity or make me want to throw myself off a cliff, I swear they are both stark raving crazy." Ferio chuckled.

"I see where your coming from, being around Umi has that effect on people. To top that off they both act stupid sometimes."

"They weren’t acting, they really are stupid," Fuu’s hand flew to her mouth in disbelief that she had said that about her friends, while Ferio was grasping his stomach in pain and rolling on the ground, laughing at Fuu’s unintentional joke. Minutes past and he began to sober up; wiping a tear from his eye Ferio reached over and patted Fuu’s back.

"Thanks for sharing Fuu, I’m sure they will be quite interested to hear it in the morning"

Fuu looked scandalized, her eyes went wide as she looked at him with disbelief in her eyes.

"You wouldn’t dare," She began.

"Oh I wouldn’t, would I? Well, wait ‘till tomorrow to find out for yourself then," He threatened with a smile.

Fuu, catching on to his joke, faked a look of mock horror.

"You Sir, are the cruelest man I have ever met," Fuu said, with a sniffle for effect.

"There must be some way I could persuade you to change your mind about telling that damaging piece of information," She grinned leaning over closer to him.

"I’m sure there is Miss, but what could you possibly give me to compensate for such a valuable secret such as this"

"I’m sure I’ll think of something," Fuu said, breathing into his ear. Ferio’s smile grew as he looked down at Fuu.

"I’m sure you could Fuu, I’m sure you could," Ferio wrapped his arms around her, Fuu sighed contently and let her head drop to rest on his shoulder, wrapping her right arm around his neck. Some of Fuu’s shyness returned to her as a blush creeped up her neck and cheeks. They stayed like that for a long while, much to Ferio’s happiness. Finally they broke apart; Ferio smiled at her once again and favored Fuu with a kiss on her forehead and a gentle hug before releasing her.

"Well, It’s late so we better get to sleep," Ferio said.

"Yes, I suppose your right"

"G’night Fuu"

"Good night Ferio"

Fuu slid back over to her blanket and folded it over on top of her as Mokona bounced over to her and buried it’s self under the blankets beside her shoulder and began snoring almost immediately. She briefly wondered where it had been all this time, but wiped it from her mind, Mokona disappeared all the time, and besides that, she didn’t mind being alone with Ferio, not in the least. Fuu closed her eyes and shortly after fell asleep.
