Chapter 2
Battle with a new enemy
by: Lmwfantasy@aol.com

Ferrar stopped, finally out of breath. He was failing, he was failing his parents and all his friends. He couldn’t get the mashin, because he was overpowered by Ferio. A little boy couldn’t do it, he couldn’t get the mashin. Tears started to well up in his eyes, as he sat down on a tree root, discouraged.

“Pu pu?” asked Mokona, who had followed Ferrar after he had run away.

Ferrar looked at Mokona dejectedly. “Are you disappointed in me, Mokona?”

“Pu!” said Mokona firmly, shaking it’s head.

Ferrar frowned. “You should be. I didn’t get the mashin. It’s not nearly as easy as I thought. Why can’t I go home without the mashin? I can’t do it anyway, I’m too little.”

“PU PU PU!” cried Mokona, bouncing around him. It bounced up to him and tapped him on the head, then then bounced around in the surrounding forest. “Pu pu!”

Ferrar managed a weak smile. “You’re right, Papa wouldn’t want me to give up now. He’d want me to keep going.”

“Pu,” said Mokona, nodding.

Ferrar stood up. “All right then. The first step is to get into that castle, and to get everyone on my side. How can I do that? I’ll have to act innocent, unlike how Ferio sees me.”

Ferrar paced around, mumbling to himself. Absorbed in his thoughts, he wasn’t aware of the danger approaching him.

***

Sentra appeared above a small town, next to the forest. “Yes, this should do nicely. A nice, quiet town, no disturbances. They won’t expect anything, and it will draw everyone’s attention, including the brat. The brat likes the forest, so all I have to do is attack part of the forest, and it will draw him.” She held out her hand, and a jeweled bracelet on her wrist began to glow. “SHOUKAN!”

In front of her, a harlequin looking youma appeared. “You rang, commander?”

Sentra smiled. “I certainly did. You see this town here? I want you to destroy it. Not all at once though, slowly. After you tear up a good part of this town, I want you to start on the forest. That will dig the brat up. Understand?”

The youma smiled. “Perfectly. This should be fun. I haven’t played with anybody in a while.” Then it flew off, to do it’s damage.

After it flew off, Sentra began to chuckle.

***

“Ferrar!” Fuu called, looking all around her. “Ferrar, answer me!”

“Hey, brat!” yelled Ferio, hands cupped over his mouth. “Where the hell are you?”

Fuu turned to him, hands on hips. “He’s not likely to respond to that, Ferio.”

Ferio shrugged and grinned. “Just telling it like it is. And we’re supposed to find him, right? That would get his attention!”

Fuu sighed and threw up her hands. He was being so difficult. She couldn’t understand his resentment towards the boy. She turned on her heel and marched off, calling Ferrar.

Ferio frowned. She seemed more concerned about the kid than him. It had been awhile since they had seen each other, so why was she so into this kid? She should have been concerned about him, not a stupid little brat. He sighed, and decided to forget it for now. He walked off after Fuu, though he stopped calling for Ferrar.

***

Ferrar stopped pacing, and faced Mokona. “I’ve got it now! I’ll do it just like Papa would! We should go back to the castle; I’ll get the mashin another way.”

“Pu pu!” cried Mokona as it started to bounce around. It started to bounce in the direction of the castle, when the ground shook.

“What’s happening?” cried Ferrar as he clung to a tree root for support. “Why’s the ground shaking?!”

As the ground stopped, Ferrar noticed something glowing, towards the east. A big glowing something. Ferrar stared at it, almost entranced by it. It looked like fire.

“Mokona, what’s going on? Is that fire?” asked Ferrar, uncertain.

“Pu pu,” said Mokona, hiding behind Ferrar.

A big explosion sounded, and the ground shook again. Suddenly an unseen force flew by, knocking them down. Ferrar clung to the tree root again, clearly scared.

“What’s happening?” he cried, to no one in particular.

As if in response, he could hear screams. He tilted his head and listened harder. They were screams, the screams of people, and animals. Something was happening, and it was bad.

“Mokona, we have to go help! We have to see what’s the matter!” cried Ferrar. He got up and ran towards the screams, leaving a very concerned Mokona behind to follow.

***

The youma laughed hysterically as the people ran and cowered in fear. They were all so weak, it was funny. Nobody wanted to play, and it bet that none of them knew the proper way to play either. It twirled it’s baton around, basking in it’s own greatness. “They still have to watch my acts! I shall play with these people, whether they like it or not!”

The end of it’s baton burst into flame. It chose a target, a nice little farmhouse, and blew. It blew the flame into a giant fireball, and decimated the farmhouse. Laughing like a rabid hyena, it moved on. “Where are you, brat? You have to play with me and all these people! We’re gonna have fun, then I’ll take you back to Sentra-sama! Dynasty will be so pleased, I’ll win an award!”

As if in response, Ferrar appeared at the edge of the forest. He stopped, frozen at the sight before his eyes. The entire village had been burned down, and was still burning. The people were screaming and running in fright. Ferrar snapped out of his daze, and looked around. He couldn’t see what had caused it, and he didn’t know what to do.

“One’s first duty is to make sure that the people are safe. It is very important that the people be protected.”

Ferrar’s mother’s words came back to him. That’s right, he needed to help these people, even if he was a little boy. He started to run towards the nearest group of people, unaware of the youma’s presence.

“Hee hee, time for a finale!” the youma cried, as it flew into the air. It twirled it’s baton again, then started to spin. As it spun around in a circle, hundreds of hard, little balls appeared, then fell. It was like a hail storm in essence, and it hurt.

Ferrar screamed as he was bombarded with hundreds of balls, and tried to find shelter. One hit him directly on his cheek, and he started to cry. “Why’s this happening? Why am I doing this? I’m just a little kid!” A mark appeared on his forehead, and as he screamed again, he was engulfed in a pillar of light.

The youma froze and stared, then started to cackle. “The brat has shown itself! Sentra-sama shall be pleased!” It halted the ball storm, then swooped down on Ferrar.

***

“Ferio, look!” cried Fuu, pointing to the sky.

Ferio’s head snapped up and he looked where Fuu was pointing. When he saw what it was, he gasped. There was a pillar of green and gold light shining, not far away. “There’s a village in that direction.”

“Something must be wrong. We must help them,” said Fuu, running in the direction of the pillar of light. “I wonder what caused that to happen.”

“We’ll figure that out when we get there,” said Ferio, running besides Fuu. As they ran towards the light, Ferio looked at Fuu. She was older, like him, but it only seemed to add to her beauty. Blushing at the thought, Ferio promised to get some time alone with Fuu later.

***

Sentra watched the pillar of light, and grinned. “He showed himself, just like the Master said he would. Now is the time to collect the brat!” She flew towards the direction of the light, extreamly pleased.

***

Ferrar stopped screaming finally, but not in time to stop the youma from spotting him. Hearing a rather insane cackle, he looked up to see a clown-like thing come speeding down at him. Before he could scream again, it picked him up and flew up, cackling all the way.

“Hahahahahahahahahahahaha! Gotcha now! Heeheeheehee! Time to deliver you! You’ve caused the Master such trouble, you naughty thing! Hahahahahahahaha! He’ll make quick with you! Hee hee!”

Ferrar stared in horror at the clown’s painted features, but couldn’t speak. He had failed again, and now he couldn’t save his parents. He could feel himself crying again, and went limp in the youma’s arms.

“Ohohohoho! Not even going to fight are you? How pitiful!” declared the youma. But before it could fully celebrate it’s victory, it heard someone yell.

“WIND OF ADMONISHMENT!!”

Before it could utter another cackle, the youma felt itself being bounded with wind, and the wind was pulling Ferrar out of it’s grasp.

“Shimata!” it screamed as Ferrar was pulled away and floated neatly to the ground.

Fuu and Ferio ran up, but stopped when seeing the destruction the youma had caused. The village was burnt to cinders, and the people had scattered.

“How horrible!” Fuu cried, putting her hands up to her face. “Who would do such a thing?!”

“Someone powerful, I can say that,” muttered Ferio. He was enraged. Whomever had the nerve to do such a thing to his people, who had never done anything to anyone, was going to get it. He would see to that.

Their thoughts were interrupted as they heard the youma scream. “Damn you! I was having such fun! You’re gonna play with me, then you’re gonna pay!” At this, it gave a mighty lurch, and broke free of Fuu’s spell. It began to twirl again, sending down the shower of balls.

Fuu and Ferio ran to Ferrar, who was unconscious. “WIND OF PROTECTION!” cried Fuu, shielding them from the onslaught. “Ferio, please take care of Ferrar!”

Ferio paused, looking down at Ferrar. Now that he was out cold, he seemed much less the brat. He nodded to Fuu, then scooped up Ferrar and ran off.

“Ahhh! Don’t you take him! He belongs to the Master! The Master is gonna have fun with him! He’s ours!” the youma screamed. It sped towards Ferio, unsheathing a dagger.

Knowing he only had an instant, Ferio grabbed a piece of burning wood nearby, and flung it at the youma. It hit the youma in the face, sending it crashing to the ground, screaming.

“Now! Fuu!”

Nodding in understanding, Fuu lifted her arms. “EMERALD GALE!”

Clutching its burned face, the youma looked up to see Fuu’s magic speeding towards it. Before it could say anything else, it was engulfed by Fuu’s magic, and turned to dust.

Fuu ran to Ferio yelling, “Are you all right? Is Ferrar all right?”

“We’re fine,” Ferio replied, standing up. “Ferrar’s unconscious, but he’ll come to. You destroyed the monster before it could do any more damage.”

Fuu sighed. “I’m glad. Oh! But you are hurt!” She pointed to his hand, which had been burned by the wood.

Ferio shrugged. “It’s nothing. Had to get the monster away, and give you a chance to use your magic.”

Fuu’s eyes glistened, then cried, “HEALING WIND!”

A shower of sparkled breeze fell around them, healing Ferio’s hand. Ferio smiled at Fuu and said, “Thank you.”

Before Fuu could reply, they heard another yell. Turning around, they saw a puprle-haired woman floating in the sky, fists clenched.

“How dare you! You destroyed my youma! And you took the brat! Hand him over! Now!”

“What do you mean, the brat?” asked Fuu, staring upwards.

“Forget this! It’s time to make you pay, then I’ll get the brat and hand him over to Master Viper!” she cried. Then she raised her hands and yelled, “STORM OF EBONY!” A shower of black energy came raining down on them, destroying what remained of the village.

“WIND OF PROTECTION!” cried Fuu, as she shielded them as they ran for safety. But the bolts of energy split right through the barrier! Fuu screamed as they crashed around her, then glared up at the woman.

“Hahahahahaha! How pitiful your spells are! You aren’t even a match for me! Who are you, anyway?” Sentra asked, smirking.

“My name is Fuu Hououji! I am a Magic Knight!” Fuu cried.

Sentra stopped, then stared. This pitiful little girl was a magic knight? “Well, then it is my honor to destroy you,” she said, raising her hands again.

“FUU!” cried Ferio. He was about to run to her, when he felt Ferrar move. Looking down, he saw Ferrar lift his head and look around with unfocused eyes. “What happened?”

“You got in trouble, that’s what happened! These maniac ladies destroyed the village!” Ferio cried.

Ferrar looked up, and saw Sentra. “AHHHHHHHHHH!!!” he screamed. “GET THEM AWAY!!” He wriggled in Ferio’s arms in an attempt to run.

“STORM-” Sentra began, as Fuu stood defiantly under her. But before she could cast the spell, Viper’s voice interrupted her thoughts.

“Sentra! Leave it! If that truly is a magic knight, all she has to do is summon her Mashin, and you would surely lose! We’ll get the brat another time, fall back to base!”

Sentra grit her teeth, but obeyed. “We’ll finish this some other time. Viper says it’s not the time yet to destroy you. But destroy you I will!” Then she vanished.

Fuu stared up at the sky in puzzlement, then ran to Ferio. “Are you two all right? I thought I heard Ferrar scream.”

“He did. He went nuts when he saw that lady, but now he’s unconscious again. What just happened here?” Ferio asked, still holding Ferrar.

“I’m not sure. But we should head back to the castle, and tell everyone what has happened,” Fuu said.

“Then lets go. Guess we’ll have to haul this guy there too,”said Ferio, walking towards the castle.

As they walked towards the castle, Ferrar’s last thought before he fully fell unconscious was, “You’re warm. . . . . . . .like Papa.”
