"Hey Widget, what are you doing?" Heather asked her friend as she walked into the house. " Something smells good."
"Thanks. Just put your stuff in my room," Widget told her. Heather was going to spend a week with her while their parents went to Mexico.
"And that smell is bean cassarol and a carrot cake."
"What for?" Heather asked coming out of Widget's room. "Dinner?"
"No. We're having leftovers. This is for the new neighbors who moved into that blue and white two story house across the street I saw them pull up a while age so I thought they might want dinner."
"So have you met them?"
"Could you please hand me that spoon? Thanks. Nope, I just saw them pull up."
"You mean to tell me that you're cooking a good meal for strangers, and I, your best friend, get crappy leftovers. Bitch." Heather said laughing.
"Well if we're lucky they'll ask us to stay for dinner. Think I made enough?" Widget asked.
"Damn girl, you have enough to feed an army!"
" I saw about six ot seven kids get out of the van. Here carry the cake."
They walked out and crossed the quiet street, and walked up to the door. Widget shifted the dish to one hand and knocked lighly on the large oak door.
