The Early Music Shop was formed in 1968 on what was then an absurdly small selection of instruments, just a handful of recorders and crumhorns. We were encouraged in our earlier years by the late David Munrow and many of his pioneering contemporaries and it is almost true to say that the Early Music Shop is as old as early music itself, the revival that is. It has certainly contributed to the continuing interest there has been in the field, making early music instruments accessible to all who have a love and feel for ancient music played on original instruments.
The shop has grown to become the largest single source of early musical instruments worldwide. The showroom in Bradford contains a bewildering display of instruments of all types, by makers from all quarters of the globe, serving customers who are no less widely dispersed. The shop moved to its new premises on the outskirts of Bradford in 1988 and houses the manufacturing facility covering several thousand square feet. Little wonder that the Early Music Shop is a target for customers worldwide who regularly travel great distances to visit the shop first-hand.
If you wish to visit, our opening hours are 9.00am to 5.30pm, Monday to Saturday.
