Organisations are powerful because they have great mission statements.

Our school, DBTR National Higher Secondary School, Mayiladuturai is also a powerful organisation with its great mission - mission to shape students' wholesome personality with its value-based, life-oriented education.

In the eve of the Centenary Celebrations of our school (to be held in the mid of August 2000) let us happily turn the pages of our school history (of course proudly too).

Headmasters

The school was started by the generous Komal Srinivasa Raghava Iyengar in the year 1901 as a secondary school. Sri Pattanam Venkatarama Iyer was the first Headmaster of the school. When it is upgraded as a High School (1949) Sri M.K. Natarajan, as strict Disciplinarian became the Headmaster, who earned a great reputation for the school.

Sri. M.S. Ponnusamy Iyer, the then Correspondent built a four roomed building for the school.

Sri S.V. Kalyanasundaram, popularly known as "S.V.K." as Headmaster led the school to great heights from the year 1963. Then came Sri P. Ramaswamy Iyer who took pains to upgrade the school to a Higher Secondary School. In 1986 Sri J.R. Ramamurthy followed him as Headmaster who contributed much to the sports side. Now from June 1994 Smt. Pushpavalli Srinivasan has been the headmistress who takes all the efforts to lift the school to its memorable peak.

Correspondents

Our School has been blessed to have great veterans and educators as Correspondents. Sri V. Viswanatha Iyer was the first correpondent for the school. Then Sri. M. K. Ranganatham as Correspondent took all strains to construct new buildings for the school.

Then Sri C.R. Kunjithapatham as correspondent has taken a major role in the growth of the institution. During the correspondentship of Sri S.V, kalyanasundaram the school got more new buildings. From 1987 Dr. K. Venkataramanan is the corrspondent of the school. Under his able and multi-faceted guidance, the school enters in the Centennial Year.

The Management Committee

The Management committee is the driving force for the school with its elite members. The committee was first founded by Sri M. S. Ponnuswamy Iyer. The committee often gives needed suggestions for the development of the school. The Current members of the committee includes,

The Academic Achievements of the school

In the very first year (1949) when the SSLC was started, the school got 100% results.

During the period of Sri S.V. Kalyanasundaram, the school has secured 100 % results in the public examinations many number of times.

In 1970 Selvan S. Ganapathiraman secured Tamil Nadu state's First Rank in the SSLC public examinations.

During the period of Sri P. Ramaswamy Iyer as HeadMaster Selvan V. Srinivasan secured second rank at state level.

Students of this school not only excel in curricular activities and also in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. They take part in various competitions and oratorical contests held under different banners and come out with flying colors. The students of the school give many radio programmes

National High School Becomes Diwan Bahadur T Rangachariar National High School (1977)

In 1977 Dhiwan Bahadur T. rangachariar donated 42 acres of land to the school. In gratitude towards his high generosity, the school cam to be known as DBTR Nationa High School, Mayiladuturai.

Best Teacher Award Winners

Many of our school teachers have been honoured with State Government Awards. Sri. S.V. Kalyanasundaram and Sri P. Ramaswamy Iyer were the Headmasters who had received the honour. Sri S. Krishnamurthy and Sri A. Ramabhadran were the Assistant Headmasters to receive the state awards.

Games and Sports

The school owns a playground to an extent of five acres. The school had won the prestigious Veerappa Pillai memorial trophy many a times. In the academic year 1999-2000 the school has won the twin trophies, Sri Veerappa Pillai Memorial Trophy and Sri Velayudham Pillai Trophy. The other unique achievement this year is the winning of trophy at divisional level by being the best school in games and sports among the schools in three districts (Nagai, Tiruvarur, Tanjore). Every year many of our students participate and win places at state level tournaments and events.

The notable activities of the school

There is a well equipped computer section in the school. Integrated Education School for the Visually Handicapped students plays a vital role with the monetary assistance of our correspondent in educating the visuallu-impaired students. Our school Parent teachers Association under the presidentship of Sri M. S. narayanan has been selected as one of the best PTA in Tamil Nadu State level.

The present Headmistress Smt. Pushpavalli Srinivasan has been honoured as one of the best headmasters by Junior Jaycees, Lions, Rotary and InnerWheel Clubs of Mayiladuturai. The school has won many special prizes in state level science exhibitions.

Former Students Association

The former students' Association is functioning with all enthusiasm. Sri M.R. Kannappan is the president and Sri N. Venkataraman is the secretary of the association. It helps in many ways for the growth of the school. Also it has donated one room in the Centenary Building Block. Many former students in abroad like, Mr. S.S. Vasan, Sri N. Ram Prakash and Sri. Venkatesh take much interest in the welfare of the institution.

Library

The school has got a well equipped library with almost 18000 books. A librarian under Parent Teachers Association is in charge of it.

Recognition of the School

The Consumer Council of Mayiladuturai had honoured the school as the best school in Mayiladuturai, since the school gives more importance to the wholesome development of the education of the students.

Our thanks are due to the philanthropic-minded public service organisations and former students and with their kind patronage, we will dedicate ourselves for the further growth of the institution in the years to come.
