Summerlin NJB Junior Boys All Star -- Jared Gilman -- Wins Elks Hoop Shootout, the State Free Throw Tournament in Hawthorne, NV

Jared Gilman, age 10 & a 5th grader at Bonner Elementary won the 10-11 year old division of the Free Throw Contest sponsored by the Elks Club of Las Vegas (Jared is also an All-Star in the Junior League and plays for the Hoosiers). The State tournament was held on February 12th in Hawthorne, NV.  He shot 19 out of 25, (including his first nine in a row) to win, defeating a boy from Northern NV and Central NV. 

The next step is the Regional championship in Las Vegas against the best from Cal, AZ and Utah. To get to the State finals Jared had to win both the local and district tournaments both held at Western High in Las Vegas. 

In the locals Jared defeated 15 other contestants and in the districts he won in a "sudden death" 5 point shootout against a boy from Pahrump. It has been an exciting adventure to get to the Regionals. If Jared wins the regionals, held on 3/25, he will compete for the National title to be held in Springfield, Massachusetts in late April.
