Tuesday March 26, 2002

I woke up bright and early today at 7am. The sun is already out and since this room is equipped with windows that actually open. This is very unusual for a casino hotel these days. It is still kind of cool out so I closed up the window and went about my business. I’m still not sure what my plan is for the day.

After getting ready to go for the day I had made some plans to meet up with my friend Gary. We were going to meet up at Sunset Station for a while. I still had plenty of time and made a few stops to pick up some supplies like soda and snacks.

When I got to Sunset me and Gary played some video poker. Video poker wasn’t too good to me here. I lost $100 in no time at all. That wasn’t very fun. Gary had a coupon good for a $3 blackjack bet. I took the coupon and played it. The coupon was a winner and so were the next few hands. I played about 15 minutes and cashed out ahead $5.

From Sunset Station we went up to Fiesta Henderson for lunch. We went to the Baja Beach Café. I ordered my favorite meal here the Feel Good Wonton Soup. It was as good as ever and very filling.

After lunch we played some penny 100-play video poker. When I sat at the machine there were 2 tickets that someone left. One was good for 21 cents and the other was good for 16 cents! Hey, I’ll take it. I did ok on these short pay games. I even hit a royal on one hand for a whopping $40! I eventually cashed out ahead by $80. Not a bad payday for a penny game (even tough it’s $5 a hand)!

I had a $5 match play coupon so I bought in at a blackjack table for $40. I won my hand and played for a while longer. I was up $40 but ended up losing it cashing out even. While I was playing Gary had to leave but I stayed a little longer. I went over to the craps table and lost $50 in record time. The shooters would make a point, then 7 out. Then throw craps a few times before making a point and sevening out again. I left the Fiesta Henderson and came back down here to the Silverton to rest for a while.

I decided tonight I would go downtown and see what was happening down there. I had some coupons for the 4 Queens I wanted to try to cash in with so I left the Silverton around 7pm. One was for 500 points when you earned 500 points from the Las Vegas Advisor. The other was for a free denim jacket when you hit 4 queens on any quarter or above video poker machine. This coupon came from their newsletter. I haven’t played here in years and don’t get the newsletter anymore but a friend sent me his coupon.

When I got downtown I valet parked over at Main Street Station. There is almost never a wait here and they don’t require any validation to park here either. From here I walked through the California and then over through the Las Vegas Club to get to Fremont Street. I made my way down to the 4 Queens. Fremont Street was quite busy tonight. Glitter Gulch had 2 strippers out front trying to drum up some business but I think their boss should have chose some better looking girls because these 2 looked pretty rough. As I passed by Mermaids I couldn’t believe how many people were in there and how many people were flocking to the girls out front just to get those stupid Mardi Gras beads. I still don’t understand what the thrill is about those beads. As I passed by the Horseshoe they had a bunch of signs out front saying that the downstairs coffee shop would be re-opening soon. Hopefully it’s as good as it used to be and let’s hope that Becky brings back the $3 steak special too!

When I got to the 4 Queens I stopped by the slot club booth to make sure my card was still good. I don’t think I’ve been here in about 3 years. My account was still active and the lady gave me a new card.

I walked through the casino looking for a game to play and I found a few Bonus Poker machines that pay $1199 for a royal flush. This game has a return of 99.56%. With cash back and comps this is a positive play. I know they have better plays here but I don’t play 10/7 Double Bonus. I played at this machine for an hour and just couldn’t hit anything substantial. The whole time I played I only hit one quad. I ended up losing $100 on this machine and took a walk out to see the Fremont Street Experience. There was a show playing I hadn’t seen before. After a short walk I went back to the 4 Queens and picked out another machine in this bank. Things were up and down here and I hit a few quads to keep me going including a few bonus quads in 2’s and 4’s. One hand I had deal to me was a winner with a paid of kings. This hand also had 4 cards to a diamond royal. All I needed was the 10. Of course the play here is to drop the pair and go for the royal flush. I did just that and up popped the 10. Unfortunately it was the 10 of spades so I collected my 20 coins and moved on to the next hand. I must have been dealt 3 queens about 50 times during these 2 sessions with no luck on hitting them. Finally I was able to hit them and collected my jacket. It’s pretty nice. It just your plain old denim jacket with the 4 Queens logo embroidered over one of the pockets. I played a little longer and actually finished ahead by a whopping $3.75. Not a bad deal since I racked up a bunch of points and will be getting an additional 500 and even got the denim jacket too. This is they video poker is supposed to be.

Since I’m not too bright I left my LVA coupon book in the car and couldn’t redeem my 500 point coupon so I’ll have to go back tomorrow and turn that in. From the 4 Queens I walked down to the Plaza. I had a coupon good for a free order of beef stew or a hot dog. Buddha from some of the message boards I visit taste tested this stew last week and gave it approval. When I walked through the doors of the Plaza it hit me as soon as I walked in. Yes, it was the great scent of industrial strength bathroom cleaner with the fake lemon scent. Ah, that combined with the smell of 30-year-old beer in the carpets is very reminiscent of piss. I really wish they would clean this place up because I think it has a lot of potential.

From the Plaza I went back over to Main Street Station to get my car and I headed back up here to Silverton. I took the Strip the whole way from downtown and this was actually my first time on the Strip since I got here last night. It was getting towards 1am.

When I got to the room I gave the taste test to this Plaza stew. It was pretty good although a little bland. Nothing a little salt and pepper couldn’t take care of. It had huge chunks of meat, carrots, celery, onion, and whole baby potatoes. It’s a little bit on the greasy side though since the styrofoam container has a pretty thick orange film all over it.

After eating and watching a little TV it was time to end this day and get to bed.

Total win/loss for the day -$100
Total comps for the day $58 (plus a denim 4Q jacket)
