Day 3 Thursday March 27, 2003

Well today I woke up at 5am sharp. It’s safe to say my sleep pattern is screwed up big time at this point. I started off with a little bit of surfing the net before I got ready and out of the room. Once I was ready it was time for some breakfast. I wanted to try the buffet here at the Gold Coast to see if it was any good. I’d say for the $4.99 that it costs it IS a good deal. Lot’s of offerings including quite a few lunch items. The only thing that was lacking was the service here this morning. It started out good with the server asking what kind of beverage I wanted and she brought my orange juice right away. From here I was a bit disappointed in the service though. After I downed this glass of juice she came by at least 8 times to clear my dirty dishes and to take orders from people at other tables. But yet she never refilled my drink. I found this odd that she would see this glass empty so many times but never fill it back up. I was tempted to tip her accordingly but she eventually filled my drink when I made one last pass over the buffet. Then she was hovering over my table until I left. I tipped her even though she probably didn’t deserve it.

After breakfast I walked over to the Palms. The Palms is one of my favorite casinos with the exception of tight room comps. I started off by playing the FPDW progressive by the front door. The jackpot was only at $1025 so there was no problem getting a seat. Things were good to start with a wild royal and a 5 of a kind right off the top but after that it went downhill. Typical of deuces the machine was very streaky. After an hour of play I went from being up $50 to down $50 and back to even before being down $50 again. After about 30 more minutes I hit 4 deuces to put me up about $160. I cashed out and took the $60 and tried a little more. This $60 lasted all of about 10 minutes.

My next stop was the craps table. They offer a $5 game with 3,4, and 5X odds. I bought in for $200 and got quite a bit of play. The table wasn’t bad but I couldn’t seem to get ahead. On a good note I also wasn’t losing. Then the table got cold and the losing started to progress. I hit the pocket for another $200 and that lasted quite a while too. I even got back the original $200 and got back even. That was until the table took a total shit and every shooter would roll 3 numbers and then 7 out. I bought in for another $200 and then something happened. A lady pulls up next to me and it was her turn to shoot. She starts putting money on the don’t while she is the shooter and my favorite thing happened. She hit 3 points in a row! She finally went out and it was my turn to roll. She continued to bet the don’t but I didn’t really wipe her out like I typically do. I didn’t do too bad though. From here the table got super hot. One shooter had the dice for a good 45 minutes. This guy was followed by 2 shooters who had the dice for about 15 minutes each. By the time the dice made it to me and my fair roll I had my entire original buy ins back and an extra $150 on top of it. I cashed out ahead while I had the chance. These opportunities to cash out ahead haven’t happened too often so far on this trip.

After I cashed in my chips I came back over here to the Gold Coast to rest for a while. Getting up at 5am isn’t something I like to do. I get up that early for work and I sure don’t like it then and I don’t like it on vacation either. This is where we are in the report right now. Yes, it’s nap time! I feel like I’m 3 years old but hey, I’m on vacation and I deserve a nap!

After I got up from my nap I got ready to head out. I am supposed to meet my friend Anne and her mother over at the Las Vegas Hilton to have dinner at the Steakhouse there. Traffic was a mess from the Gold Coast all of the way to the strip intersection. It took me almost 30 minutes to get to the Hilton from here.

When I got to the Hilton I was looking around for Anne and her mother when I hear my name called. It wasn’t Anne or her mother but it was Dave a.k.a. “Captain Coupon” from the Las Vegas Advisor Message board. Go figure! This huge city and running into someone you know!

Terry arrived and we headed over to the Steakhouse and we were seated right away. Shortly after Anne’s brother and sister in law arrived and then Anne finally got there. Mark was our waiter and as always took pretty good care of us. This meal was fully comped for 5 and we had pretty much everything we wanted. I had some appetizer with mozzarella cheese and tomatoes and some other sliced meats and cheeses. Pretty good but not something I’d get again. For my meal I had the filet mignon and my favorite au gratin potatoes. Everything was great and I pretty much ate all of it. For dessert Mark brought out a tree of huge strawberries and warm chocolate to dip them in. These were really good and the chocolate was some of the best I ever had. The bill for 5 of us was over $300 but as a local Terry got 25% off the total bill. The savings here were almost $100! This is a good deal when it comes to saving comp dollars.

After dinner we all scattered around to play in the casino. I went to the craps table and bought in for $300. This table was pretty hot and while there were no monster rolls everyone was hitting a few numbers and making some points before they would 7 out. After about 2 hours I cashed out up $225. It was now about 2am and everyone was beat and we all went our separate ways.

Oddly when I got back to the Gold Coast and up here to the room I was kind of hungry even after eating that huge meal at the Hilton. Since I still have plenty of credit left on my account here I decided to go down to the Monterey Room for a quick snack. I only got a bowl of soup and an order of toast. I also got a slice of chocolate cake to go. It’s now 3:30am and I’m ready to get some sleep. Tonight is my last night here at the Gold Coast and tomorrow is moving day.

Total win/loss for the day $450
Total Comps for the day $64
Total out of pocket expenses $5
