Day 8
Tuesday March 30, 2004

Hotel:
Today is another moving day. I’m moving over to the Rio to wrap up the trip. The rates were ridiculously high for these next 4 nights but for me the first 2 nights are comped and I’m actually booked at rates of $60 and $49 for the 3rd and 4th nights. Yes, it’s odd I’m booking rooms at a price but there’s some logic here. I don’t want to stay for just 2 nights and move again. Plus I almost have enough reward credits to cover 1 night so I’m figuring by the time I play I should have enough to cover both nights. If not 4 nights for $60 isn’t really a bad deal in a top hotel, especially when it keeps me from having to move for 1 day.

I was able to check in quickly and I was up on my way to room 1280. I wasn’t thrilled with the view of this room though. I reserved a high floor strip view (for paying customers they charge and extra $20 per night for this). Instead I got a view of Palms and Gold Coast. It’s not a bad view but not what I paid for.

I went back to the check in desk and asked to be moved but they were out of strip view rooms. So what the hell is the point of reserving a premium room when they don’t have any for you when you arrive?

Meets:
Had a mini meet with Ed in Pa and his wife here at the Rio at 5pm. We met outside the All-American Grill and hung out talking about our flights and trips for about an hour or so.

Dining:
Before I checked out today I grabbed one last meal on my silver card (which was really under used this visit) at the 777 Brew Pub. I just had the chicken fingers and a soda real quick before my card expired at noon. This is a huge portion of chicken fingers. There were 7 huge fingers on this plate and no normal person can eat them all.

After the mini meet I walked over to the Palms to grab something to eat at the Sunrise Café. I have quite a few points banked up here to go along with points I have at other casinos through town. This way I can pretty much eat no matter what part of town I’m in! I kept it simple and just had a grilled cheese and fries. Even this was a huge portion compared to the normal sized sandwich and fries.

Gaming:
When I checked out of Main Street Station I cashed in my points for $93 cash back. This was an accumulation of points from about the last 6 years. I have never really given them much serious play until this trip so after all of these years the cash back was piled up!

After I checked into the Rio and got settled into the room I went to the 8/5 bonus progressives in the Masquerade Casino. This machine was sucking down money like crazy before I hit quad 4’s and then 6’s. I held steady for a while and then hit another quad and a few full houses. After about an hour and a half I cashed out with a $10 profit and got to watch the show in the sky twice before having to go meet Ed in PA for our mini meet.

After dinner at the Palms I hit the craps table. This table started out ice cold. It was a come bettor’s worst nightmare. Establish a point, roll 2 more numbers and the 7 out. I finally got the dice and had a great roll and another good shooter followed my roll. The table leveled off after this and I stayed about even for a while. All together I had 4 rolls and each one was pretty good. I ended up cashing out with almost a $300 win and headed back to the Rio.

When I got back to the Rio I returned to the 8/5 bonus progressives and dropped $100 in about 20 minutes. I only hit 2 straights and a full house. Everything else was just crap.

From here I decided to take a chance with some dollar action. This is the first time I’ve taken a shot at dollars this trip. Things started out rough but then I hit quad 4’s to keep me going. Unfortunately I had too many low pairs dealt to me and couldn’t connect on any of them. It was a killer and I dropped the $200 I bought in for wiping out all the profits I made at the Palms earlier.

Total win/loss for the day $100
Total comps for the day $352
