Day 10 Thursday April 2, 2003

I slept in today until noon. It was a rest I really needed and after I got ready I went over to the Riviera and met up with CC for lunch. Gary wasn’t coming because he was at a luncheon with his job. I still had the comp for 2 that the front desk supervisor gave me for the hassle I had the other night. We both had the prime rib dip. This was basically French dip but instead of roast beef it was prime rib. The food was ok but the meat was really fatty. The sandwich was pretty large and I didn’t quite finish mine. CC had to head back over to work and I took care of the bill and decided to head out to the Cannery Casino in North Las Vegas.

I liked the place even though most people said they didn’t like it. I got into the craps game they had going. This was a $3 game. I’m not sure what kind of odds they offered because I was only taking double today. After yesterday’s ass kicking it was time to try for some smaller wins instead of going for the kill. This table was pretty good and I was able to cash out with a $160 win. I didn’t think this was too bad considering I was only betting $3 with double odds on the line plus 2 come bets.

On my way back to the strip area I made a stop at a small dumpy casino called Speedway. They had a $2 game here and my main goal was just to grab some chips and throw the dice a few times. They have a full table but it had a divider on it so that just one dealer could man the game. Everyone else at the game didn’t really know how to play and they were just making line bets with no odds and field bets. I made them quite a bit of money when I hit 12 3 times in a row (pays triple). I was only betting $2 on the line with odds. I hit a few points and left with a whopping $6 win.

My next stop was unplanned but from Speedway I got on the 15 and it was a parking lot. I took it to Lake Mead Blvd and went up to Texas Station. I was tired of standing so I wanted to try some Price is Right slots. I lost $10 here and then went to play some video poker. I chose 8/5 bonus and popped a $20 in the machine. This machine was pretty cold and I had just $5 left when I was dealt a pair of aces and pulled 2 more for the quad and a $100 hit. I cashed out and went to play craps.

The table seemed pretty good and I got in. From the time I got on it was up and down. I played a bit and then cashed out with a tiny profit. One note about this game. There was some loser playing $15 on the big 8. I didn’t get this when it’s such a bad bet. I understand when players bet it for a buck or 2 but this made no sense. I don’t really blame the player though. I think the dealers were scumbags not to tell this guy he’d be better off placing the 8 for $12 instead of betting that dumb big 8. Of course these are the same dealers that had a guy betting $25 across the board and not buying the 4 and 10 for the guy.

The other problem I have with Texas Station is the cashier cage. They always have a huge line of locals cashing pay checks but if you have chips you can go to a special window. For some reason this window always has some asshole in it that isn’t cashing chips but had platinum or president cards that seem to hold up the line. Today I was in line for nearly 15 minutes to cash in my chips. I left Texas Station with a $91 profit.

After Texas I went to Palace Station. I was in and out of here in less than 10 minutes. I’d shoot a point then 7 out. This repeated a few times and $81 later I ran away.

The next stop for the day was over to the Stratosphere. They had 2 games open but one was that stupid crapless craps game. I got on the regular game and instead of making come bets just placed the 6 and 8. After getting ahead and losing some of the winnings I left with a $19 profit.

I went out to Boulder Highway next and stopped off at Arizona Charlie’s. This was a $2 game and I thought I’d try something I never do. I was placing the inside numbers after a point was made. This game was up and down and I left after losing $19.

Next stop on Boulder was Sam’s Town. I was betting the same way on this game as I was at Arizona Charlie’s. There was a great shooter but the only problem is this guy was hitting the 4 and 10 like crazy. If only I had been making come bets! I left Sam’s with a small profit. I was hungry now and since I was almost there anyway I went up to the Fiesta and for the first time this trip got the Feel Good Soup. It was as good as usual and as usual the service here sucked!

After eating I headed back down here to the strip and took a short break. I wanted to get on the $1 game over at Slots-a-Fun but the table was packed. Instead I went over to the Westward Ho and got on their game. Oddly this was a $5 game instead of the $2 it usually is. Plus they only offer double odds. I was making a line bet and placing the inside numbers. This was a good table and everyone that shot did well. I like getting paid on just about every roll of the dice and it added up quick with these good shooters. The table eventually went bad and I ran away casing out with $153 win. One funny note about the Ho. I bought in for $100 on this game and it was with an old $100 bill. It was actually from when I cashed out at Sam’s Town and the box man was looking at this thing like he was from the FBI. He kept holding it up to the light looking for the strip and watermark with no luck. He called over his pit boss and they used the special marker on it to make sure it was real. Funny how paranoid a little dump like this gets over an older $100 bill.

It was getting late now so I came back up to the room to get things wrapped up for tomorrow’s move.

Total win/loss for the day $350
Total comps for the day $69
Total out of pocket expenses $6
