Day 5
Wednesday June 27, 2007

Since today is 2X points at Slots – A Fun most of my play will be there today. As always I settled into the 9/6 jacks or better five plays. There’s not much to report about this session other than the fact that I got my ass handed to me to the tune of $500 in very short order. I can take losing with the best of them but not getting any play for my money really sucks.

I needed a break from Slots – A – Fun so I went over to Terrible’s to play some video poker and hit their gas promotion. Normally I get killed when playing this and today was no exception. I chose 8/5 bonus for dollars today and a total lack of quads did me in. I dropped $600 here but did walk away with a $25 gas card and I got to keep my points. Nothing beats a $600 ½ tank of gas!

I decided to play a little blackjack after the video poker and bought in at a double deck game. I was playing 2 hands and on the very first round the dealer only gave me one card on my 2nd hand. I had doubled on my first hand already and the floor person gave everyone the option to leave the hand with no win or loss or they could stay in. I pulled a 21 on my first hand so kept that. They dealt me a card on the 2nd hand and I had a 15 against a dealer 4. I stayed in and he busted. A few hands later I doubled down on hand 2. The dealer pulled a 4 card 20, turned my 19 over and promptly paid me! What a moron this guy is. I finished the session up $10 which I split with the dealer. The only reason I left was because I was up about $100 and the cards turned.

I came back to Circus – Circus after the massacre at Terrible’s for lunch at the Casino Café. Today’s soup was tomato basil and I had a grilled cheese to go with it. Service was unacceptably slow this afternoon but there seemed to be no reason for it.

Back over to Slots – A – Fun for some more painful video poker. I dropped another pile of money into the machine with what seemed like even less play than before. Luckily it was time to head out of there to meet Yahtzee Mike at the Flamingo. He got us tickets to Society of Seven at 3pm. I walked from Circus – Circus all of the way to Flamingo. It’s pretty far but the walk was a good change of pace compared to fighting traffic on the strip. It’s actually been a long time since I walked that much on the strip in 1 shot! This show is entertaining but I wouldn’t rate it as outstanding. I will say that guest star Lani Misalucha can really sing. Tickets for this show are normally $49.95 and quite honestly it’s not worth anywhere near that. With a 2 for 1 this show might be worth it but at full price I’d say it should be skipped.

When the show was over we hung out in the center strip area for a while. We both signed up for slot cards at the new Bills Gambling Hall (formerly the Barbary Coast) and played a few points onto the card just to see what kind of mail, if any shows up. We also checked out Big Elvis for a few minutes. This guy is still pretty popular and still packs that little lounge after all these years.

For dinner we hit the diamond lounge at Paris. They had an assortment of sandwiches (no wraps, real bread!), fruit, salads, and desserts. At 7pm the hot food came out and tonight was chicken wings and crab cakes. Dinner in the diamond lounge is great!

When we left the diamond lounge we went over to Planet Hollywood. I hadn’t been in there since the conversion from Aladdin was completed. I like the look of the place but a scan of much of the casino shows the place is pretty much a video poker wasteland with exception of about a dozen machines at the dollar level. Once we were doing wandering through there we were out in front of Paris just hanging out talking. Then I see something on the ground. I looked like a $20 bill. After about 10 people walked over it I grabbed it. It WAS a $20 bill!

After my find I came back down to Slots – A – Fun for one more shot on the five plays. I got some play in but again dropped another couple hundred with very few dealt winners. This was probably one of the worst days I’ve ever had at video poker.

Just for the heck of it I went over to the Riviera and played blackjack for a while. Things were back and forth but I won a few double down hands and got dealt a few blackjacks. I won a few hundred and got the hell out of there. The only reason I quit was because I didn’t want to lose what I was up and the dealer was a nasty miserable prick. Normally I would have kept playing but not under those conditions.

I finally gave up on playing today and came up to the room to jump in the Jacuzzi for the last time. I’m going to miss not having this when I move tomorrow!

Total win/loss for the day - $900
Total comps for the day $104
