Day 3
Monday June 29, 2009

After a good night’s sleep we started our day at the Hilton buffet again. They have all the basics here for $12.99. The food quality was good and the price, while not great, was decent considering this isn’t a local’s place!

On the way to the buffet we stopped by the roulette table to do a match play. Dee played her usual odd and something odd happened. It went into 17, popped out and landed in 5. Normally that wouldn’t be odd but the exact same thing happened the other night. I played black and won mine as well. This made us 4 for 10 on match plays.

After breakfast Dee spotted some penny slots she thought were interesting. We both played a $20 bill. Dee was hitting bonus rounds one after another. I wasn’t hitting much of anything but staying even for the most part. I finally land in a bonus round and as luck would have it, got ZERO. I think this is totally wrong to hit a bonus round and not win anything. I cashed out after this with a $1.07 win. Hey, a win is a win!

We went up to the room and packed up an overnight bag. Then it was time to head out to the Silverton. This trip served multiple purposes. The first was to check in. I got an offer good for 3 nights (I booked 2), $75 in free play, $25 dining credit & 2 tickets to a Silverton show (there were no shows playing while we are in town). It was neat when I got to the check in desk Yahtzee Mike was the there checking in as well. Check in is always a breeze here and today was no exception. In just minutes we were off to room 3019. This was a room with 2 queen beds, a nightstand, a work desk, sitting chairs and a view of a wall. The bathroom is tiny with no real extras in it.

I’d also like to point out that we are now registered to 4 different hotels at the same time. This is a new record for me and I hope to break that record someday. I could have done it this trip but didn’t want to invest the time in driving to another place to check in for a perk that wasn’t worthy of the time or drive. Next trip, I’ll be shooting for 5! Call me a pig if you’d like but do it knowing you’re just jealous of all the offers I get that I’m smart enough to use.

Once we got to the room we changed and hit the pool which was another reason to come here. Sure the Hilton has a pool but it serves 3000 rooms and gets crowded and we prefer the smaller less crowded pools at places like the Silverton.

After pool time it was nap time and then it was time to play some before dinner. We found a few penny slots and on the first 2 I tried I got beat up a bit. We decided to move and I played a Davinci Diamonds machine. I hit a few bonus rounds and one round scored 4500 coins and cashed out with a $1 win again.

Another reason for coming to the Silverton today was to meet up with some old friends from the Las Vegas Talk Board for dinner at the buffet. Those in attendance were Carol in WI (now LV) & Jeff, Las Vegas Norm & Andrea, Jimbo & Katy + their daughter, Yahtzee Mike & Dana and Mike’s friend Tim. They were running a 2 for one dinner special here by showing a player’s card so we both ate for $15 which I charged to the room to make use of our food credit. We all had a great time at dinner and took a few pictures in the casino before all going our on ways.

After dinner we played some video poker with Mike & Dana. Since our last trip here they got rid of my favorite bank of machines so we played Single line 9/6 jacks for quarters instead. I had $75 in free play and I was able to play on that for over 2 hours. Quads were lacking but the lower volatility of jacks helped along with a number of full houses.

I finally lost my free play and moved to a different bank with Spin Poker. I played for quarters and dropped $100 instantly. After that I moved over to a multi strike machine. I haven’t played this in a long time because it can be pricey and I dubbed it the crack-cocaine of video poker a few years ago when it came out. I held my own for a while scoring a quad on the bottom line and a few flushes and full houses on the 4X line. I couldn’t land anything decent on the top though. I cashed out this machine even.

Everyone was getting tired so we were heading to bed. On the way back I hit a Gems slot machine. I hit few bonus rounds but they weren’t enough to keep me alive through the droughts of the regular spins. I lost here and it was bed time.

Total win/loss for the day -$200
Total comps for the day $463
