Day 4
Tuesday July 1, 2008
Happy Canada Day to my Canadian Friends

When we got up early this morning and took a long walk down the strip for some exercise and to take pictures. On the walk we ducked into The Mirage, Slots – A – Fun, Circus – Circus, The Riviera, Wynn, Palazzo, Venetian, Harrah’s, and Flamingo. All in all it was a 2 ½ hour walk.

When we got to Slots – A – Fun I noticed the free pull machines were gone and when we got into Circus – Circus the little desk that they used to hand out the fun books was also gone. This was very disappointing to me. I don’t think I ever won more than 50 cents on these free pulls they were a part of “Old Vegas”.

When we got back to the room we ate the chocolate cake we got last night and was it ever good! Since didn’t get much sleep we napped and took it easy in the room for a while. That’s where we are right now in this report.

The first thing I did after our break was to hit the cage to get my $250. So I go to the cage, fill out the form and the cashier tries to give me $250 in promo chips. I tell him no way, that coupon says cash. He says we don’t give cash. I was about to get pissed off then he read the coupon and had to ask another cashier if it was ok. More great training of employees by a major strip casino.

After our little break we walked through the Miracle Mile Shops and then had to meet up with Yahtzee Mike and Dana. We had both scored some tickets to the Fab Four Live, a Beatles Tribute Show at the V Theater in the Miracle Mile Shops. I got these tickets for “free” after reading a post on the LVA message boards that Gold Star was running a deal for 2 free tickets. I put free in quotes because you did have to pay an $8 per ticket service charge on each ticket. The funny part about this was if you chose the tickets that had a cost, the service fee was only $6. In any event this was a great deal since these tickets normally retail for $54 a pop and we scored them for a mere eight bucks. These seats are general admission in the back of the theater but the place isn’t very big at all and there really aren’t any bad seats in the house. The show started at 5:30 but we got there plenty early to pick up the tickets at the box office and to get in line, not wanting to risk getting the 4 worst seats in the house!

I had seen the Fab Four show at the Hilton a few years ago on a comp offer and thought the show was pretty good. This show was great and worth the $8 admission we had paid to see it. With that said I would not recommend paying $54 for this show. Not because of the quality of the show but because of the length only being 60 minutes. Even though we had general admission tickets, we got seated in the VIP section. This was probably because the theater was only half full. This made the free tickets even more valuable!

After the show it was time to eat so we hit PF Chang’s but there was a 45 minute wait to get seated because dumb ass James forgot to make a reservation. Instead we opted for the Spice Market Buffet. This buffet is $26 a head and while very good I didn’t get that kind of value out of it. Simply put they offer king crab legs and I don’t like seafood so can’t get maximum value out of a buffet like this. The server in our area was excellent and never let dishes pile up, or our drinks get empty.

After dinner we went over to Terrible’s to hit their gas card promo. First thing to do here was play some match plays. We chose roulette again because the BJ tables were full. As usual with match plays, we lost both of them making us 0 for 4 and -$40 on coupons. Next up was to get a new card and sign Dee up. I got $10 in free play for moving up to the silver level and a fun book. Dee got $5 in free play, a hat, and a fun book as well as some special point redemption offers.

I chose 9/5 jacks or better ten plays. This was a mistake. I just could not get a dealt winner to save my ass. It was just hand after hand of losing to the point of $600 in order to get $25 in gas. Dee was playing penny ten plays. She had a deal for signing up to get $5 in gas for $300 points. She was about ½ way there so I figured I’d put the other 150 points on to get that $5 card. This was a mistake as it cost me $50 to put $150 in action on her card. Oh well, sometimes promos don’t go as planned.

Total win/loss for the day -$400
Total comps for the day $647
