Day 5
Wednesday July 1, 2009
Happy Canada Day to my Canadian Readers

Today was moving day so we finished packing up our stuff and headed to the Hilton buffet. It was identical to the buffet there the other day. This morning the service was excellent though and our server took really good care of us. On the way to the buffet we stopped and played more coupons on roulette. Dee played odd and even came up, I played black and red came up and we both lost. We were now 7 for 17 on coupons.

After breakfast it was time to leave the Hilton and it was time to hit the road. Today we are heading to Laughlin. This has become one of Dee’s favorite places and I like it too. This trip we’ll be here for a record 4 nights. I’ve never stayed more than 2 nights down here so this will be a good break from the constant running around we’ve done for the first 4 days of the trip.

On the way we made a short stop at Terrible’s in Searchlight. I’ve been to Laughlin many times but have never stopped here. We didn’t play but just took a short break and looked around before getting back on the road for the rest of the trip to Laughlin.

When we got to Laughlin it was up to Harrah’s where we’d be spending the next 4 nights. I booked this directly through the Harrah’s website and all 4 nights are comped. We checked in at the diamond check in area. I had requested a suite from my host but being that it’s a holiday weekend he said he wouldn’t be able to do that for me. Instead he said he’d put in a request for a patio room. I was unfamiliar with this type of room. The staff in the check in area is always quick and efficient and today was no exception. In just a few minutes we were off to room 1616 in the north tower. We didn’t get a patio room but did have a full river view and a view of all of Casino Drive. After seeing where the patio rooms were we were glad not to have one.

The room had a king bed, 2 mini dressers as night stands, a work desk and a large flat screen TV. These rooms were recently remodeled and looked good. The bathroom was standard with a large vanity, toilet and tub.

When we were settled into the room we took a break and a short nap. We’ve been running quite a bit the last few days and the next 4 days we going to be just for chilling!

When we woke up we went to the diamond lounge for a late lunch. They had an assortment of cold cuts and cheeses, a veggie platter, and cream of chicken vegetable soup.

Since our last trip, when I booked the room and now there has been a change to this place. They have totally gutted their video poker inventory of all 9/6 jacks or better games. I had planned on playing quite a bit here this trip on these machines but their removal has forced me to make a choice here. What if anything would we play? We decided to go to the Golden Nugget to play instead. They only had 2 BJ tables open and one was packed, the other had a high minimum on it. We played some penny slots for a while and then Dee wanted to play roulette. They had a $3 game so we both bought in. We hit a few numbers but then hit a dry spell and lost. Next up I found some triple play machines with a pay table that weren’t too bad so we played those for a while. I hit quad aces but that wasn’t really a good thing since we were playing jacks or better. Dee was doing well and I was getting killed and then things changed. She lost everything she was up and I came back thanks to a straight flush and a deal quad in 10’s.

Our next stop was to the Aquarius to scout out some VP for tomorrow. We found some machines I wanted to play and then played a few penny slots with no major hits. I ended the day down about $100 between the roulette, VP and penny slots.

For dinner we went back to The Golden Nugget where I had the chicken fingers at their restaurant called Harlow’s. I had comps from last time we were here built up and we earned a few more bucks worth tonight with the little play we had. The service was friendly but a bit slow here tonight but the food was tasty.

From Golden Nugget we came back here to Harrah’s to wind down and then go to bed

Total win/loss for the day -$100
Total comps for the day $77
