Day 7
Friday July 4, 2008
Happy Independence Day to my American Friends

Today is moving day so after a quick bite to eat at Cinnabon it was time to pack up and head out of Laughlin and back up to Las Vegas. We made a quick detour over to Davis Dam so Dee could see that and then gassed up in Arizona to save about 35 cents a gallon.

Once again the ride was boring but before we knew it we were back in the Las Vegas area. I made a quick stop at Railroad Pass so Dee could see that then it was on to the Hard Rock.

The plan here was to stop at the Hard Rock for some craps action and to see the crew. I have pretty much given up on this game but I thought I’d take a shot this afternoon. Our first order of business was to play some match plays. Dee likes to play them on roulette when we can so we did that. She played even and odd came up. I played black and red came up making us 2 for 8 on match plays this trip. I started out on a dead game. I made my first wager with a $100 free bet coupon and set a point of 10. While I rolled lots of repeaters during this roll I couldn’t pop a 10 and went out losing the free bet and the odds I took on it. I had another good roll before the table started filling up and then things changed and keeping with the theme of this trip lost, lost and lost to the tune of $1100. I just can’t seem to get any luck at all and can’t seem to stop bleeding.

When we left the Hard Rock it was up to Red Rock resort where we’ll be spending the next 4 nights. It’ll be nice to finally settle in for more than 2 nights somewhere and I know Dee is looking forward to staying put for a few days and is excited to be staying here. We’re staying here on a 4 night comp in one of their signature suites. This comp came to me about 2 months ago when I received a cold call from a host on my answering machine. While I didn’t know this guy his message made it sound like he knew me for years. Obviously he took a player list from another casino which I questioned him on. He said he used to work at Caesars Palace and the Las Vegas Hilton. Since I’ve had some action at both of these places in the past, I can see where he got my name. We had a discussion about my play, my history at Red Rock (little to none) and what he was looking for, as well as what he was offering. He told me he’d comp all the nights I needed, pick us up at the airport (I declined). He asked me where I was playing recently and what they did for me so I told him the Hard Rock gives me a suite and I get the food comped at check out and that Planet Hollywood brought me in LRFB up front with a suite. At this time he offered me a signature suite and said I could charge food to the room and it would probably be picked up (homey don’t play that probably shit!!). I figured I’d take him up on his offer over the holiday weekend to take total advantage of a nice comp like this and a look on their website showed the room rates through the roof, especially Friday and Saturday.

When we arrived at Red Rock I self parked in valet and had a bellman take our luggage. We checked in at VIP area and everything was quick. We were finally on our way to room 4157. As we made our way up to the room and entered I was a little aggravated that they gave me a regular room and it had a great view of the new parking garage they are building. I went back down to VIP and told the girl I was supposed to be in a suite and the view of the room she gave us was unacceptable. She looked up in her computer that Nick requested a suite for me and it was not approved. I asked the girl at VIP if Nick was around and she said she didn’t think he was. I asked her to have him call me as soon as possible and to let him know I wasn’t happy. I was NOT happy that a host promised me a suite and then I got stuck in a regular room. I easily could have stayed at any number of other places in a suite and I was really looking forward to this. Most of all I was really disappointed for Dee because I had been hyping this up and we were both excited to be staying in a nice suite at a nice hotel like this. I can say this though, she’s a better person than I am because I am pretty pissed and she took it really well. On a similar note Nick saved me some money because if I even play, it won’t be nearly at the level he was expecting from me and I hope his bosses get all over his ass for coming me upfront with no history on a holiday weekend.

We did get moved to room 14147 and this is a king room with a view of the strip way off in the distance. It’s got a king bed with nightstands, work desk, sitting area, 42” flat screen TV and overpriced shit in the mini bar. The bathroom is large with a standing shower stall, double basin vanity, and a large, deep bathtub with a TV above it.

Once we finally got to our standard room we unpacked fully for the first time this trip. Since we had short stays everywhere else we never really settled in. When we were done unpacking we took a short break before we went to get some dinner.

Tonight we decided to get some take out from Panda Express in the food court and bring it back to the room. The plan was to eat and watch the fireworks that Stations were putting on. The fireworks lasted about 10 minutes and we had a great view of them from our room. We got a 3 entrée combo with noodles, orange chicken, beef and broccoli and chicken egg rolls. While Chinese food is very different out here compared to back home Panda Express is pretty good, especially for a fast food chain take out variety.

After the show we wanted to go to the coffee shop for some dessert but the place was packed and there was a line a mile long. Add to this the casino was jam packed so we decided to go upstairs and order room service instead. The only problem was room service wasn’t answering the phone. Dee sat on hold for a good 10 minutes before we decided to give up. Poor service cost this place another bit of money and saved us a few calories.

We watched a little TV after this and then went to bed.

Total win/loss for the day -$1150
Total comps for the day $249
