Day 8
Saturday July 5, 2008

This morning we started our day by getting up early and taking a walk through Red Rock. Since Dee had never been here before and didn’t really get a chance to see the place last night it was a good time to see it. After a short tour and taking some pictures we hit the casino for a few minutes to play for a few minutes. I played the new Happy Days penny slots. They were ok but not very entertaining. I hit a few bonus rounds but didn’t do very well on those. Nothing aggravates me than finally hitting a bonus round and getting less than I do on a regular spin. I finished down just 8 bucks after about 30 minutes of play.

The next stop was the pool area. The pool area is really cool here with lots of smaller pools and one larger pool. There’s lots of space to sit except when people start claiming chairs when the pool area opens but then leaving the area for hours until later in the day. I think this is rude and unfair to people that want to be at the pool and have a nice place to sit.

We didn’t stay at the pool very long because it too hot and the sun is intense. When we go back to the room we got ready to start our day. First up was Target to get some more supplies for the week and then to the Henderson area. First stop was to drop off laundry and then over to Fiesta Henderson for lunch. We had Feel Good soup the other day but we split one bowl and had it in smaller bowls and it wasn’t the same. Today we each ordered our own bowl and a side of egg rolls. The soup was way better today than it was the other day and we both really enjoyed it. While we were eating we played keno. I know this is a terrible game odds wise but at $5 for a half an hour of games it’s a really slow bleed. On one game we actually hit 3 of 5 to get a whopping $1 win. It’s the first time we even won anything playing this.

After lunch we played some Goldfish penny slots. I hit the bonus round where you pick the fish food cans. Of the 5 cans I chose 3 of them were the bad ones and I got zero coins on this part. Then I had Dee pick a turtle of the 3 they show and got 60 coins. Not a very good bonus round when you’re betting like 35 coins as it is.

When we were done playing I drove Dee over to Lake Las Vegas and Monte Lago Village. She’d never been here before either so it was a good chance for her to see it since we were nearby. After a quick drive through of the area and some picture taking it was off to one of our favorite places, the Pinball Hall of Fame. For anyone that’s read my reports before, you know this is one of my favorite non-gaming activities. We played a variety of games here and had a lot of fun like we always do. The best is winning a bunch of free games and playing for a long time on a quarter!

When we left the Pinball Hall of Fame we came back up here to Red Rock to rest for a bit and then get ready to go to dinner.

For dinner tonight we headed down to the Las Vegas Hilton to meet up with my friends Anne and Steve, their son Jason and Anne’s mom Terry to go to TJ’s Steakhouse (formerly the Hilton Steakhouse).

Before dinner we used some match plays from the ACG on the roulette wheel. Dee played odd and hit hers. Next spin I played red and black came up. This put us at 3 for 8 on match plays so far this trip.

As usual we had Mark the Waiter as our server who has become a friend over the years. As always he takes great care of us. I get one of 2 things here and that’s either prime rib or filet mignon and I chose the filet tonight. I also got a side order of creamed spinach to share with Dee. She got a filet with a baked potato to share. The food was really good except the Mark accidentally swapped my medium rare steak with Anne’s medium well steak. I initially thought it was just my filet was over cooked but then she mentioned how hers was still mooing I realized what happened.

After a filling and lengthy dinner we went our separate ways. I had a few more match plays so we both played again. Dee played even and lost. I played black and won. We’re now 4 of 10 on match plays but still up slightly because of winning those $25 bets at Fiesta Henderson.

We were on the road when we decided we’d like some dessert. I figured it would be best to get away from the strip and com back near Red Rock. What we did was hit Rampart so Dee could see it and to use some match plays. We used the $20 match plays from the ACG. Dee played even and lost. I played red and black came up. This hurt. I still had another match play so hit the craps table with it. On the come out roll the shooter hits a seven so we walked out of there even after 3 match plays. We’re now 5 for 13 and it really sucked to not win 2 of those larger coupons.

From Rampart it was over to Suncoast to their coffee shop for some dessert. We were seated and our beverage order was taken but then there was no sign of a waitress. Finally after about 20 minutes a server from a different section came over and took our order. I went with a hot fudge sundae and Dee went with chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream. After another lengthy wait the waiter said they were looking for vanilla ice cream. Then 10 minutes later he came back with chocolate and strawberry and said they were out of vanilla. The server was cool and gave Dee and extra scoop of ice cream and didn’t charge us for the coffee. The desserts were good but the wait was bad. I used my points to pay the bill.

We were going to play some match plays here but after a marathon dessert we skipped them. They’re only for $5 so not a great loss and we can do them another time.

We got back to Red Rock around 1am and crashed.

Total win/loss for the day $0
Total comps for the day $324
