Day 11
Tuesday July 7, 2009

We were up early this morning and started off by hitting the buffet here at Main Street Station. It has all of your typical breakfast foods and everything was good. While I was walking through the food line I saw a lady with an Open Vegas t-shirt. It turns out that it was Wishing in FL.

After the buffet it was time for some more video poker. I started off on fire and got dealt trip fives and connected on 2 of the 3 lines. I continued to get dealt winners and pulled a few more quads and a straight flush. I cashed out of the session with a $200 win. Dee wasn’t quite so lucky and couldn’t catch a break.

It was break time so we hit the room and that’s where we are in this report right now.

When break time was over it was off to the post office to ship a few souvenirs back home and we went over to a place I never knew existed. It was the Atomic Testing Museum. This place is full of videos, stories and artifacts about Atomic testing. It’s located on the corner of Swenson and Flamingo. Of all the times I’ve driven up this way I never knew this place was here. Dee read about it in one of the freebie magazines. They charge $12 to get in but there are $2 coupons in the magazines so it will cost you $10 to get in. While we were there we saw one dude that would be classified as a nerd. He was a bit scary wearing his Buffy the Vampire slayer t-shirt with a picture of Sara Michelle Gellar and was wandering around with an evil smile on his face. He was just WAY too into this stuff!

Now we headed up to the Strip. I parked over at Bill’s and then the first stop was to Bally’s to cash in a coupon for free tickets to Jubilee that was sent to me in their quarterly magazine. Getting the tickets was quick and easy and we scored seats at table SS right near the stage.

Next up it was off to Planet Hollywood. I got an identical mail offer to the one I booked for June with 3 nights, free spa admission, 2 tickets to Peepshow and $500 in free play. Since we saw the show last week I had planned to give the tickets away to Las Vegas Norm. Check in was an issue. The clerk said there was no reservation in my name. I gave him the actual confirmation number and he said the reservation was cancelled. I kind of knew where this was going. He asked who my host was and I told him who it was but I didn’t want anything to do with him. He called him anyway and handed me the phone. He pretty much told me that they knew I had been there 5 times and played a total of 30 minutes and all he was going to offer me was casino rate. I told him that if he wanted to stop me from booking future offers that was one thing but it was unacceptable to cancel or change a reservation already booked. He tried to sweet talk me like hosts do and said he’d would put me on hold and ask his boss. When he put me on hold I handed the phone back to the clerk and told him to tell my host when he came back on we’d go stay elsewhere. The last thing I needed was for him to get the offer approved and then be held hostage to play. I also wasn’t going to attempt to stiff them a 6th time when they were on to me. Now while I’m fully aware stiffing a casino on an offer will lead to losing offers. However, canceling a booked reservation is a load of crap. Since I didn’t need the room we just left the check in area and I called Norm up and told him of the bad news about the show tickets. He was cool with it and luckily he hadn’t left home yet to come down to the strip. I was a bit aggravated because I took the time to go all of the way there and I was counting on that $500 in free play. Dee on the other hand was totally thrilled that we never have to go to this place again because she hates it!

Since we had about 5 hours before Jubilee started Dee suggested that we go to the new M Resort. This place is pretty far south down the strip but is one of the nicest places I’ve been to in town. One main reason for being here other than to see it was to sign up for a slot card. They were offering a free buffet or $10 in free play. Folks, the move here is to take the buffet if it’s still being offered. We had the dinner buffet and all I can say is it was the best buffet I’ve had in Vegas since the original Rio buffet over 10 years ago. They had multiple carving stations, 5 kinds of soup, Italian, Asian, Mexican, Indian, Italian, Seafood, American, salads, fruits, and plenty of desserts.

We hit the casino for a bit after eating way too much. I found a bank of triple plays and we played for a bit. I couldn’t catch much of a break and the dealt winners were far and few between. I ended up dropping the $200 I won earlier at Main Street Station. Dee did a little bit better than I did and took a small profit with her before we had to leave to go back to Bally’s.

When we got to Bally’s I valet parked. This was convenient because with my diamond card getting the car is usually pretty quick on the way out and the front entrance isn’t far from the Jubilee Theater. We were seated right near the stage and I can say that these seats sucked. The tables down here are jam packed and your view is limited. If you plan to go to this show get cheaper tickets with a theater seat as opposed to being down on the floor close to the stage. During the show there was a malfunction is a piece of the stage fell off into the pit. Even the dancers seemed lost on what to do. A few of them kept dancing a bit but a few were just looking at each other shrugging their shoulders. They finished the number and then brought out the next act like nothing happened. As far as a review of the show I have to say I don’t know how this show has lasted for over 20 years. This show was awful and I’ve honestly seen better shows on cruise ships. The best parts of the show were time filler acts between the singing and dancing numbers.

When the show was over we took a walk over to Paris to see if Ned the dealer was working and he was. We stopped by his table and chatted for a while. Ned used to work at Fiesta Henderson and dealt craps to me and Yahtzee Mike many times over the years. Once we were caught up we walked back over to Bally’s to get the car and came back here to Main Street Station and hit the VP machines again. First off I activated my free play that came with the room offer. They said it would take about 10 minutes so I just popped $100 into the machine. There wasn’t much to report here. I was getting enough to keep playing but then things got tight. I downloaded my $75 and before I knew it that was gone too. I think I dropped that $75 in a matter of 5 minutes.

For a little fun we played a few penny slots. I cashed out with a $10 win and then we called it a night around 12:30.

Total win/loss for the day -$100
Total comps for the day $274
