Day 12
Wednesday July 9, 2008

To start our day we headed over to the Sahara where we would use the $50 for $40 coupon from the POV and use some match plays too. Using the coupons was easy enough at the cage and we found a $5 shoe game that was dead at the time. I’ve never done well with this promo and honestly it’s not really that great to begin with. We ran into a dealer that was on fire. I think Dee lost all of her “funny” chips with only 2-3 wins scattered between losses. I did a little better but not by much. We also both lost our match play coupons but that wasn’t a terrible thing considering they were only $5. Again, if we’re going to lose, these are the ones we want to lose. This wasn’t a good session as we turned our $80 cash into $100 in Promo chips and turned those back into $30 cash. We now stood at 20 for 38 on coupons.

Next stop was the Las Vegas Hilton. I had to make a few sports bets for the guys back home and while we were there we did some match plays. Dee won hers on the roulette wheel but I lost mine. This allowed us to get out of there with a $10 win added to the kitty and 21 for 39 on coupons.

Today I had a reservation over at Terrible’s. I didn’t need the reservation but the offer came with $100 in free play and since I like to play here on their gas card promo I decided to book this one. My hopes are that this $100 in free play is enough to allow me to max out on the gas card promo today! This was my first time ever staying here and I was actually looking forward to seeing the rooms. I heard they were really nice especially for the price. Check in was a breeze here today and we were given room 2219 in the tower. This is a king room that’s pretty roomy. There is a small entry way leading into the room then you pass the open “closet” area. There is also a small table and chairs, dresser and 42 inch flat screen TV. The bathroom is pretty roomy but basic.

Once we looked over the room we were off to lunch at the Bougainvillea Café. There was a coupon in the fun book they gave us last week for value meal lunches. There are about 8 items to choose from for really low point redemptions. I had the orange chicken off the Chinese menu. It also came with a small bowl of soup and white rice. Dee had the spaghetti and meatballs. The food here was good as it usually is when I go there. The value meal was a great deal with Dee’s costing $1.66 and mine costing $2.66. I paid the bill with points and we were off to the casino to do some match plays.

We played them on the roulette wheel again. Dee chose odd and won and on the next spin I chose black and won making us 23 for 41.

After lunch we got ready to go to the pool. Dee thought it would be a better idea to go to the pool at Terrible’s as opposed to the pool at Caesars to avoid the crowds. The pool here is kind of nice and not many people were there so we almost had the pool area to ourselves. The only problem with going to the pool at 2pm is it’s really hot out and almost too hot to enjoy the pool area.

After about an hour at the pool area we headed back up to the room to get cleaned up and then hit the casino. My first stop was the slot club booth to make sure my free play was loaded onto my card. Amazingly there wasn’t much of a line here like there usually is.

While their gas card promo is pretty good here I usually get my ass handed to me playing it. Today was no exception. I was playing 5 play 9/5 jacks or better and just getting killed. No dealt winners better than 2 pair and couldn’t draw a thing. No quads, no full houses. I dropped $400 here in a matter of minutes. While we were playing she ordered 2 virgin pina coladas. These are a nice treat on a hot day. When they arrived I swear there was booze in them. Dee said there wasn’t so I went about drinking it.

I decided to take a walk and find something else to play. I decided on $1 single line 8/5 bonus. I ran into the same issue here and got no play for my money either. I was now down $700 and barely had enough points for $5 in gas cards. I switched over to DDB to take a shot. This machine had progressives for all of the quads (except the ones with kickers) and the royal flush. I managed to pull quad deuces for $419. I cashed out shortly after being down only about $375. While I was playing I swear I caught a mini buzz but figured it was the smoke and the heat from the sun we were out in a little while before.

When I was done with VP I met back up with Dee and we played some penny slots. All reel and video slots were 10X points today. While we were there playing Dee stopped the waitress and asked for 2 more virgin pina coladas. This is when the waitress stopped with a scared look on her face and said the last 2 weren’t virgin. My response was “I knew there was effing rum in that last one” and I was not happy. Not because I’m against drinks but because I had to drive and if I didn’t know there was booze in the first one, left and drove, things could have been bad (no, I wasn’t drunk but a small accident could have landed me in deep crap).

We didn’t do very well on penny slots and we were ready to cash out and leave Terrible’s. While we were walking to the cage to cash in our chips and tickets I realized I hadn’t played my $100 in free play yet. I decided to play it on penny slots and go max bet each spin, something I almost never do. I found a Village People Jackpot Party machine. I hit a bonus round right away and on the first pick chose a party pooper symbol but got to continue the party by picking the correct party favor. This round put my up quite a bit and I kept playing. The plan was to play through the free play and then get out with whatever was left. I hit another bonus round a few minutes later and won about $50 on this one. I still had some free play left so kept going when I lined up 3 jackpot 7’s and 2 wilds for a 50,000 coin hit. In an odd turn of events I went from being down about $400 to being up $100 for the day.

I decided to cash out and hit the slot club and of course there was a line there. It moved quickly for a change and when I got there I was short for the next gas card by 38 points. I decided to go back and play the 38 points through on a penny slot to limit volatility. I ended up winning $5 and we headed back over to the slot club where the line was all of the way out to the check in desk. I honestly don’t understand what takes people so long to do what they need to once they get to the counter. I was losing my patience here as this extra $5 in gas was going to cost me over an hour of my day. Dee knew I was aggravated and got upset with me for not being patient. I can’t help it sometimes though. I’m sorry Dee. To me 45 minutes in a slot club line is totally unacceptable and I let it be known when I got to the counter.

After finally getting my voucher for the gas cards I get over to the store to buy them and I’m informed they are out of $5 cards. I could have a rain check but the cards weren’t going to be in until next week and that won’t cut it. Instead I bought $5 in gas cards so I could have a $20 card.

When we left Terrible’s we went downtown to the Four Queens. The plan here was to max out their current promo on Dee’s card. When we arrived the 50/100 plays were full and they weren’t going to open up anytime soon. Instead I figured I’d take a shot with some $1 play. I got some good action for a while but then the machine went into vacuum mode and sucked $400 down in a matter of minutes. I really can’t believe how I’m getting my ass handed to me this trip and getting such little play for my money.

Dee was still playing at the quarter level and I headed over to single deck blackjack. I was playing 2 hands at $25 each. Things started out choppy but then leveled off. I was hovering even for about an hour. Dee stopped by and said she was going to go outside to warm up for a few minutes. I should have left when she stopped by. In the 10 minutes she was outside I dropped $300 in yet another ass kicking.

When I colored up I scored a full comp to Magnolia’s again. We didn’t go crazy tonight like we did the other day though. I had a chicken wing appetizer and a hot open roast beef sandwich. The wings were good as was the sandwich although that was a little salty. We finished off dinner with some chocolate cake and ice cream. Total bill was $39 tonight. A big difference from the other day!

After dinner we went back to Caesars Palace and called it a night.

Total win/loss for the day -$700
Total comps for the day $491
