Day 6 Wednesday July 14, 2004

Hotel:
Today is the final moving day before leaving town to go on my Alaskan cruise. I’m staying at the Las Vegas Club downtown. I’ve never stayed here before and I got this MVP offer from my action last trip. By playing 4k over 3 days you get an invite for 3 nights on a future trip. I’m not sure about staying downtown for 6 nights out of the trip but I just can’t pass up the free nights and food that comes with the MVP offer. Plus since I’ve never stayed here before either I can add yet another hotel to the list of places I’ve stayed in! When I arrived I ran into Yahtzee Mike and 2 of his friends. One of them had just hit a royal and was getting paid when I walked over.

I am in room 925 in the north tower. I wasn’t sure what to expect as far as rooms go here but I was surprised at how nice the rooms actually are. They are very large and my room has a king bed, 2 nightstands, TV cabinet/dresser, a small sitting area with a couch, coffee table and 2 armchairs. There is also a vanity area that doubles as a desk. The bathroom is split into 2 sections, one with the sink and closet and another with the tub and toilet. I have a view of the California and Main Street Station.

Dining:
For lunch today I met my friend Gary over at Silverton. I had a mailer that offered $25 in dining and $25 in cash. We went to the Sundance Grill. I ordered the hot open prime rib sandwich. I’ve had this in the past and it’s very good. Not wanting to waste this comp (it was a use it or lose it type of deal) I ordered a dessert. It was some type of ice cream sundae. I forget what it was called but it had a chocolate bundt cake topped with ice cream and whipped cream. It was too much to eat but was really good. The total bill came to $25.10 so I hit that one right on target to maximize the comp. Of course I over ate to do it but screw it. I’m on vacation. After lunch I collected my $25 and headed downtown to check into the hotel.

After playing video poker for a while Yahtzee and me went to the Upper Deck Restaurant for dinner. He had a full comp for 2 so we went all out. We both ordered the 20oz T-bone steak. My steak was very good and cooked perfectly. We also ordered Chicken fingers and a giant bowl of won ton soup. The chicken fingers were a total rip off. We only got small fingers and they cost $6.49. The wonton soup wasn’t very good either. Our server was real twat and the service absolutely sucked. Our drinks were never refilled and none of the dirty dishes were removed from the table the entire time.

Gaming:
After getting settled into the room me and Yahtzee Mike walked down to the El Cortez to get some fun books. The funbooks are pretty nice with coupons for a free gift (it was a date planner/address book), $5 match play (which I lost), $5 off a meal at the coffee shop, free drink, 1000 points for joining the slot club, and a keno coupon.

When we got back to the Las Vegas Club I tried the downtown deuces machines. The deuces weren’t being very friendly and although I had quite a few opportunities to hit them, they never showed up. I played here for about 2 hours and dropped $200. After finishing up here it was time to get something to eat at the Upper Deck.

After dinner we went over to Main Street Station. I sat down at a deuces wild machine. The machine started out ok keeping me pretty even for the most part but then got really tight. I was down to about $20 when I hit 2 dirty royals about 10 hands apart and then 2 quints. I cashed out of the machine and moved to a different one. After a few minutes I was dealt 3 deuces and connected with a 4th for a 1000 coin hit. The machine got tight after that though and I ended up losing all the money the deuces were worth and after 4 hours cashed out even. That didn’t include the 9 scratch cards I got worth $22.

Next up was a little 8/5 bonus at the casino bar. The machine sucked up $20 in no time but a second $20 allowed me to play for a very long time and hang out with Brian the bartender. I ended the session up $21 and also got 4 scratch cards worth another $10. After I cashed in at the cage and started walking back over to Las Vegas Club I noticed something. It was the sun. I didn’t realize it but it was now almost 6am. Definitely time for bed!

Total win/loss for the day -$100
Total comps for the day $140
