Day 6 Monday August 12, 2002

I got up around 8am today. I’m not going to go to the pool though because I got a little sunburn yesterday and need a break from the sun. This will be a busy morning since it is moving day and I have to pack and wrap things up here at the New Frontier.

First stop was to the slot club booth to cash in my points. I’ve been letting them pile up here for a while and now I have $43 built up. They are also running a promotion where for every 1,000 points you get a $10 gas card good at any Shell gas station in the United States. I earned just over 1,000 points this visit so I was able to get one of those.

After I checked out of the New Frontier I went over to the Hard Rock and played craps for a while. Things were up and down and I cashed out ahead with a big $13 profit. It was getting a little later in the day and I was hungry so I went over to The Silverton for a quick lunch in their coffee shop. I ordered the grilled cheese sandwich with bacon on rye with fries after I sat there getting ignored for about 15 minutes. This was starting to piss me off and was reflected in the tip I left. Of course when the sandwich arrived it was on white bread. This too was reflected in her tip. At the Silverton you can pay with your slot card right in the restaurant. There is no need for a comp slip. This is a good time saver and you don’t have to go begging for a comp from the boothlings. You also have the option to have the points taken from your pit play or slot play. When the cashier asked where I wanted the points to come from I told her to check the pit just for the hell of it. I was surprised that there actually was anything in there.

I didn’t play at Silverton at all and went over to the Gold Coast to check in. They sent me an offer good for 3 nights, dinner for 2 in Arriva their new Italian restaurant and 2 show tickets. There was no line when I got there and I was on my way to the room in about 2 minutes. I was given room 349 with a great view of the casino roof, pipes, and satellite dishes. I didn’t think I wanted to look at this junk for the next 3 days so I went back to the front desk and got my room changed to 770. The view here was a little better looking down to the north end of the strip and downtown. All of the rooms here are the same and pretty basic, along the lines of a Days Inn. The bathrooms are very small but the rest of the room is a decent size.

After I got my stuff unpacked I went to the casino and played FPDW. This machine started out pretty good but then went into vacuum cleaner mode. After this I wanted to play craps but Gold Coast only offers 2X odds so I went across the street to the Palms. Their odds aren’t much better at 3X, 4X, and 5X. Things weren’t too good here but I held on for a while before I lost my buy in. I then went to a blackjack game and got everything I lost at Craps back. After this I went back to craps and lost again. Things were just as bad this time as the first time. I even had the chance to see a guy take a $4,000 marker and lose all of it. I went over to 1 more table and this is where the action was. Things were good to start then got a little choppy but then a girl started shooting that never played craps before. Her boyfriend made her pass line bet and she threw the dice for about 25 minutes making every one at the table a good chunk of money. When she finally 7’d out the table applauded her. Things stayed good for the next few shooters but then cooled off. I cashed out with a small profit but was still happy with what I had.

After I cashed in my chips I went back over to the Gold Coast to rest for a while. I guess I was pretty tired because I fell asleep with the TV on and woke up at about 6am. So much for going out!

Total win/loss for the day -$50
