Day 7 Tuesday August 13, 2002

Well since I didn’t get to go out last night I went out first thing this morning. I went back over to the Palms and hit their FPDW progressive bank. I think the deuces went on strike today because they just weren’t coming up. After playing for a while I went and tried their buffet for breakfast. I’m not a big fan of buffets but for breakfast they are usually a pretty good deal. They had all of the usual breakfast foods and a few different items too. For $5.99 I’d say it’s a good deal and if you’re in the area give it a try. I used points from my slot card to pay for it so it was comped.

After breakfast I went back up to the room and rested for while again. I’m totally screwed up from going to bed so early last night and getting up too early today. When I finally get motivated I’ll be heading downtown to the 4 Queens to check in. Yes, this is one of those deals where I am double booked.

When I got here to the 4 Queens I was able to check in right away but the room wasn’t cleaned yet so I went to the casino and played some video poker. I didn’t do very well here and didn’t get much play for my money. It was now time to go over to Binion’s Horseshoe for some blackjack. This ended up being a BIG mistake since nothing seemed to work no matter what I did. I dumped my load here and now I’m back in the hole again for the trip. I was a little aggravated especially since I hate being in the hole. It seemed like every time I hit I busted. If I had a good total the dealer would beat me by one point. That is just the type of stuff that will piss off anyone that plays the game. Of course it had everything to do with where I was sitting because the 2 ladies at the table with me both cashed out $3,000 each. They were betting much more per hand than I was though.

I came back over to the 4 Queens to check on the room and it was ready. I’m in room 418. I asked for a room under the Fremont Street Experience and they had this one available. I like to watch the people and the shows from my room at night. It’s been years since I’ve stayed here but the rooms have been refurbished since then. They are pretty small but are clean and well kept. This room has your basic hotel furniture and a king bed in it. The bathroom is very small. The view out the window is of Fremont Street. Towards the right you can see the Fremont and part of Fitzgerald’s. To the left there isn’t much to see because this room sits behind the big 4 Queens sign that is above the entrance across the street from the Golden Nugget.

That’s where we are right now in the trip. Right now I’m hungry and it’s time to go get something to eat. The choice is to eat here at Magnolia’s coffee shop here at the 4 Queens on a coupon promo or to go get a comped meal over at Binion’s. Of course with what I lost over there earlier I probably could have bought a whole cow!

I got a comp to the coffee shop at Binion’s and ordered the 16oz T-bone. It was cooked perfect and the service was actually good. It was good to be back in the old coffee shop downstairs. It really sucked when it was upstairs. While I was there eating I saw George from the Las Vegas Talk meet the other night. He came over and we talked for a few minutes before he went back over to his table.

After dinner I came back over to the 4 Queens for some video poker. I think today was the day where someone was playing a bad joke on me. I couldn’t hit anything on video poker and blackjack was a total joke. It seemed for every $20 I fed into the machine I was only getting about $30 in play. I even tried a $1 machine and only got $150 in play out of it.

Since the gaming wasn’t doing anything good for the bankroll I went for a walk down Fremont Street. I ran into George again and we talked for a while and saw a light show under the canopy. From there I went walking through each casino, but not playing. That’s one good thing about downtown. You can visit a bunch of casinos without walking 10 miles. I made 1 more attempt to save the gaming day with some craps at Fitzgerald’s. This was a total bust too. Dropped another hundred here in short order and called it a night. There was nothing that was going to happen at this point that would change what happened today. I was tired, cranky, and aggravated that nothing went right today so came back to the room and rested for a while before heading back up to the Gold Coast to go to bed. Today goes down as one of my worst gambling days ever.

Total win/loss for the day -$2000
Total comps for the day $88
