Day 2
Sunday October 15, 2006

Well even though I was up for so long and so late last night I was up at 9am this morning. The plan for today is to hit a few promos around town, head over to the Pinball Hall of Fame and meet up with my friend Gary and his wife CC for dinner.

My first plan of attack was over to the Paris diamond lounge for some free breakfast! They had a selection of pastries, cheese & crackers, scrambled eggs, home fries, bacon & sausage today. I could definitely see the impact the closing of the Bally’s diamond lounge has had since this place was packed. There wasn’t a table to be found so I grabbed a seat at the bar where bartender Joel took care of me.

After my breakfast I made a trip to the store to get some items and then up to Red Rock Resort to meet my friends Gary & CC for some food and some playing. We had planned to meet at the center bar there so I grabbed a seat. I was surprised they had an 8/5 bonus progressive there. I played for quarters and quickly hit a few quads to get ahead. When Gary & CC got there we all played for a while and got caught up on everything. I think we played for about 2 hours and I cashed out with a small $20 win.

Red Rock was also running a scratch card promotion where you got 1 card for every 500 points earned. I earned just over 1500 points so I went to the booth to get my 3 cards. Oddly the guy there gave me 15. This has to be one of the worst promos ever. They claim every card is a winner and it is. They prizes range from cash, hotel stays, buffets, and gifts. All of my 15 cards were for a mystery gift. I went to redeem them and I was offered the option of having 15 battery chargers or to get a few of those now and come back at a later time to see what they had then as the gift was going to change frequently. I complained to the guy at the booth. I asked him to let his manager know this was VERY lame that all 15 of my cards were for a mystery gift and it simply appeared this promo was created to get rid of the left over trinkets they give out in their weekly giveaways. He agreed and said others complained to. I had even heard a report that one player earned 52 cards and they were all for this mystery gift.

For dinner we went to the Grand Café at Red Rock. I’ve eaten here before and thought it was really good. I went with the meatloaf dinner and it came with soup or salad, mashed potatoes, and vegetables. I had the beef barley soup. Everything was very good and it was way too much food to eat in one sitting. The bill was $39 and I covered that with points.

After dinner Gary and CC picked up their kids over at Kids Quest and we all left Red Rock. I was going to head to Binion’s downtown to play in one of their promos but instead decided to go to the Pinball Hall of Fame. I parked it here for about 3 hours and like always when I go there had a blast. After I left the Pinball Hall of Fame it was still early so I went over to the Hard Rock for some craps action. I bought in and the table was choppy at best. After the first shooter I was never ahead. This continued for about 2 hours and a slow drain had me in the hole by about $1000. This wasn’t exactly how I had planned my first full day in town. The table cleared and I was left alone now down about $1500. I usually do pretty good playing on a dead game and tonight was no exception. I shot for about 15 minutes over three rolls. I got back into a more acceptable area of being down $400-500. The table was still choppy but then one lady had a nice roll and I was suddenly ahead by over $1000! I played a little longer and it was my turn to shoot. I shot myself in the foot rolling 2 numbers and then going out. I cashed out with an $800 win for the night. Not too bad considering how low I was at one point.

I finally packed it in and hit the bed at about 3am. It had been a long 2 days between the late nights and the flying into town.

Total win/loss for the day $800
Total comps for the day $248
