Day 2 Sunday December 15, 2002

I woke up pretty late today, almost 1pm. I hadn’t planned on sleeping this late but I guess I was all messed up from the time change and the nap I took last night. When I got up I unpacked a little. I only took out what I knew I was going to need since I would be moving sometime during the day on Monday. I don’t have much planned today other than to head out to Henderson to Sunset Station. I have a free night here in the hotel. I don’t need the room but the room offer came with $20 in free play and since I like to play a day or 2 here I figured I’d take advantage of the offer and take their free play. I got up to Sunset around 2:30 and went right to registration. There was a short line and only 2 people behind the desk. One guy checked in 5 people while the other lady had the customer from hell and was there forever. When I finally got to the desk I was totally registered in less than 2 minutes. I know I comment on this all of the time but I still don’t understand why I can be checked in so fast and other guests it seems to take so long. I am not being charged the stupid energy surcharge but they are charging me the $1 for local phone access. This is good for calls up to 30 minutes and then it’s 10 cents per minute after that. This is one of those hotel charges that I feel is very tacky and I will once again write to Station about it on their guest comment card.

I was given room 503. It’s almost identical to the room I had here back in August with the exception that this room has 1 king bed instead of 2 queens and it faced the opposite direction. Since this room is so low there really isn’t much of a view other than part of the pool area and a parking lot. Since I’m not really staying here it’s not a big deal or I would have asked to be moved to a room with more of a view.

My first move was to the FPDW machines near the Italian restaurant to use my $20 in free play. This worked out well. Although I didn’t win I played for 45 minutes on this free play money. I hit a few 5 of a kinds along the way but nothing else.

I was getting hungry after this session of VP so I went to the buffet for dinner. I have over 60,000 points on my Boarding Pass so this was comped. It’s normally $9.99 for this buffet. I’ve been to this buffet before and would rate it as one of the better ones around town even though I’m not a big fan of buffets. They have a large selection at a few different stations, each having a different type of food like Mexican, Italian, Chinese, and American. They also have a pretty good dessert selection.

I wanted to play craps after dinner but the 2 tables they had were packed so I tried some more video poker. I played on a bank of 7/5 Bonus that had progressives for the quads and royal flush. I started with a $50 bill and got all of the way down to my last 10 coins when I hit quad 4’s for $109. A few hands later I hit 9’s for $67 and then 5 hands later hit quad 3’s for another $100. For those of you that are counting, that was 3 quads in about 20 hands. I played a little while longer without any hits. I cashed out for a hand pay of $250 for a nice $200 win.

I took a walk past the craps tables and they were still packed. I walked through the casino and found a bank of optimal play machines. These machines multi denominational, multi games that are set fast and have FPDW in quarters. I didn’t get 4 deuces here but did hit a few wild royals to keep me going for a while. I cashed out here up $30.

I was going to come back up to the room to grab my things and go back to the strip but I saw there were a few opening at the craps table. This was the $2 craps table with 10X odds. I bought in for $100 and took 5X odds on my pass line bets and come bets. It was a little choppy here. A few hits, then a few quick 7 outs. When it was my turn to shoot I had just enough money left to make a pass line bet and come bet. I hit a few points right away and built up enough money to start making more bets. I had the dice for quite a while and at one point during this roll hit 7 sixes in 10 rolls, 5 of them hard. Everyone was making some money on this roll. For me the highlight wasn’t rolling for a while or hitting a bunch of numbers. Instead it was wiping out the guy next to me that was betting the don’t and making a lay bet on the 4 (betting a 7 will roll before a 4 will). He had $50 on the don’t pass and $200 in odds. He also had a $100 lay bet on the 4. I took great pleasure in hitting the 4 and causing him to lose his lay bet. He put it right back up again for another $100 and I took even more pleasure in hitting another 4 on the very next roll. A few rolls later I made my point and wiped his ass out. Now I’m not usually a great shooter and seven out pretty quick most of the time but one thing you should never do is bet against me! I made about $150 on my roll before I finally threw the 7. After this the table was up and down. I eventually quit up $100.

It’s now getting late and I’m in my room here at Sunset Station. I’m going to pack up my stuff and go back to he strip to the New Frontier. I’ll play a while there before quitting for the day.

When I got back to the New Frontier I played a little craps. This wasn’t good and I dropped $100 here in pretty short time.

Next move was to play some video poker. I still have the coupon good for a $25 bonus on any 4 of a kind. I played more Aces Bonus with no luck and then tried some regular 8/5 bonus. I played for quite a while with no gains or losses. I wasn’t able to hit any quads either. I had enough gambling for the day and decided to quit for the day. I want to get an early start tomorrow so I’m off to bed.

Total win/loss for the day $150
Total comps for the day $124
