Day 5
Tuesday December 23, 2008

We slept in today until almost 10. This is VERY late for Dee and I was impressed. For breakfast we ate the cake we got at the Beach Café yesterday and the rest of the fruit plate.

After breakfast we packed and got ready to leave town and head back to Las Vegas for the remainder of the trip. We’ve still got a week to go folks!

The ride back to Las Vegas was uneventful. Before I knew it we were pulling into the parking lot at the Laundromat to drop off our dirty clothes. From here it was on to Fiesta Henderson to make a reservation for Christmas dinner. While we were there we also played some $25 match plays from the POV. When we walked in we hit the roulette table. Dee played odd and lost. I played black on the next spin and won. We’re now 4 for 11 on match play coupons. When we were done with roulette we went for a walk around the place and then over to the craps table to play a few more coupons. We both put our coupons on the pass line. I got the dice and set a point of 4. 3 rolls later I went out and we lost yet 2 more $25 match plays taking us to 4 for 13 on coupons and putting us even deeper into the hole. It’s not supposed to work like this when you play coupons and we need a quick turn around at this point.

Now it was off to Rio where we’d be parking our butts for the next 5 nights on a mailed offer I got from them. This offer also came with coupons for 2 free seafood buffets, 2 free tickets to Nathan Burton at the Flamingo and $100 in cash for playing at two Harrah’s properties.

We checked in at the diamond area. I asked for an upgrade since it was my birthday and was/wasn’t given one. We got room 1404 in the Ipanema Tower. I prefer the Ipanema Tower to the Masquerade Tower because it’s closer to the parking and a little less crowded in that part of the property.

When we got our things up to the room we unpacked and then decorated for Christmas. Now our room was festive and it’s all ready for the big day on Thursday morning!

For dinner we used my coupon at the Village Seafood Buffet. I’m not a seafood eater but Dee likes it. There’s enough on the buffet that’s not seafood to keep me happy though. If you like seafood I’d say it’s probably worth the $38 a head that it costs. If you don’t like seafood save your money and go to the regular buffet.

After dinner we played some slots in the casino not realizing at first we were in a “strip” casino. In other words, insert money, push buttons, win nothing and go to bed. We took a break from losing and sat in the Keno lounge for 20 minutes. At least this is a slow bleed. We did have 1 game where we hit 3 of our numbers and won $3. In total we lost $7 playing Keno. We went and played a variety of penny slots again after this but it was just a waste of time and money. After I dropped about $150 I called it a night and we came up to the room to relax and watch TV for a while before calling it an early night to bed.

Total win/loss for the day -$150
Total comps for the day $197
