Day 7
Thursday December 25, 2008
Merry Christmas & Happy birthday to ME!

We were up early today and started off by opening presents. We both called back home to wish everyone Merry Christmas and had some cake too. Since we got up so early to open presents and got to bed so late we took a late morning nap to power up a bit.

Today Gold Coast is running 6X points so after we got up we walked over there so we could play a little. First stop as Seattle’s Best where Dee got a coffee and a muffin. Then it was on to the slot club to redeem LVRJ coupons for $25 blackjack match plays that I made a trade for. We hit a double deck game. I was dealt a soft 19 against a dealer 10. Dee got a 10 and pulled a 10. The dealer busted and we were both winners taking us to 24 for 42 on coupons.

Since it was 6X points today I played a 25 cent, 10-coin triple play machine. Things were going well here and I was getting enough dealt winners to keep alive. I got dealt 3 aces on one hand and pulled the 4th on the top line for $200. I was up a bit and then things turned. I cashed out down $100 and went to play penny slots with Dee.

We played a variety of those and I won like $150 playing the first machine but then lost on all of the other games I played. I went back to the video poker after that and played more triple play. Things were ok here and I pulled aces again. To preserve winnings I cashed out the ticket and gave it to Dee to hold and started with a fresh buy in again. As luck would have it I hit aces yet again and repeated the process. Shortly after I hit nines but then the machine clammed up. I walked out of there with about a $300 win.

Before we left we hit a roulette table to use a couple of $5 ACG match plays. We played our standard odd/black combination and lost both coupons. I’m ok with that though because you can’t win them all and if we’re going to lose, the $5 ones are the ones we want that to happen on. We went to the other pit and played 2 more coupons on roulette and won both of those. After the 2 wins and 2 losses we were now 26 for 46.

I didn’t want to press it playing any more today so we left and came back to the Rio for a break. I woke up to it raining like crazy. It almost sounded like it was raining in the room. I go up and checked over by the window and sure enough it as raining in the room. Right where the windows meet the ceiling water was pouring through as was the wind. So much was coming through I propped the trash cans up and one of them was 1/3 full of water when it finally stopped and the carpet was soaked.

After doing flood control we got ready to go to dinner and headed out to Fiesta Henderson. We had a 7pm reservation for Fuego, the steakhouse there. The first thing we did was hit the roulette table to burn a few match plays. Dee put her money and coupon on the odd spot. The dealer already dropped the ball and said money can’t play and pushed it back. That was a good thing though because he hit double zero. The next spin he hit odd so she ended up a winner for this round. I played black next and lost so everything worked out and we were 27 for 48 going into dinner.

Everything was in order when we got to the restaurant. We both ordered the 8oz filet mignon. Dee also had a snail appetizer. I’m happy to say that since the July trip they have switched back to an all inclusive menu instead of the a la carte one they had switched to back then. Therefore I retract my Eff you to them that they got in July! My meal came with a bowl of soup or salad and I chose the sun dried tomato. That was very tasty. The meal also came with mixed veggie and a baked potato. Since it was my birthday I got free dessert. It was a chocolate brownie like cake with a mousse and chocolate frosting on top. It was very rich and very filling. The bill in total was $72.50. This meal on the strip would have cost $200 easily. Not only that but to my surprise they were running a half point special so it only cost me $36 worth of points!

We left the restaurant and there was a new dealer on the roulette wheel. Dee dropped her chip and coupon on odd but the dealer already waved down the table with no more bets and muttered something. Dee pulled the bet back but the dealer said it would have been ok. Sadly odd hit and the dealer said she would have paid it but couldn’t now that it was pulled back. Dee was ok with that. That move ended up working out well because the next spin was odd and red so not only did Dee with this spin, but had the previous spin counted I would have played this spin and lost. On my spin I played black and won so the little mix up really played a role in both of us winning and taking us to 29 for 49 on coupons.

Next up was a stop at the booth to see my host. I haven’t seen her in quite a while and it was good to see her again. She used to take very good care of us here and I told her now that strip crowds are annoying me and Dee we’d be coming back there a little more often. From here I did my swipe and win promo and my prize today was 6X points. This was great since I was originally going to use the 3X coupon they sent me.

We played a variety of penny slots after this and I couldn’t hit a thing. Dee hit a few bonus rounds but lost pretty quickly too. I feel bad that Dee doesn’t get the luck I get on these things.

We walked around for a bit then we played another penny slot. Mine was some Chariot game. It wasn’t doing very well for me but I managed to get a bonus round that offered 15 free spins at triple pay. On the 3rd spin I hit a few combinations that paid off over 13,000 coins. I finished the bonus round with over 16,000 coins and immediately cashed out. Since I hadn’t played much VP this trip I wanted to take a shot at some $1 triple play so Dee and I went off to the high limits room. I got some play out of the machine and a few nice dealt winners but couldn’t seem to hit a quad. I lost my buy in and moved to a different machine because this one had a blurry screen and small buttons. The next machine was bad and I dropped $100 in no time. The next $100 scored me a bonus quad and got me back into it. Thing leveled off and I got to play a bit more. This is when it got interesting. I was dealt three to a royal and pulled one out on the bottom line for 4 large! Happy Effing Birthday to ME!

After my pay off I played a new Deal or No Deal slot. I had a 4000 coin hit but after that this machine was tight. I took a loss and then moved around to a few other machines for fun with no real luck.

Then we walked by the Keno lounge and played a 5 game ticket with our numbers. This was the worst we ever did on Keno. In 5 games we had a total of 1 number. Don’t get me wrong, I know Keno is a loser, but damn, that sucked. From here it was time to get the hell out of there and walk with what is a hell of a nice birthday win!

Total win/loss for the day $4050
Total comps for the day $392
