Day 9
Saturday December 27, 2008

We slept in today and got a late start. The first thing we did was run around a bit taking care of some errands and then it was down to Bill’s. When we got there we hit the hot dog cart and used some ACG coupons for free hot dogs and drinks. This was just a quickie lunch to hold us over until dinner later. Next we went over to Flamingo to redeem a coupon good for 2 tickets to Nathan Burton that they mailed to me. This show wasn’t until 4pm so we killed some time playing penny slots. I got lucky and hit a bonus round for 20 free spins a 3X pay. During this bonus I got 20 more free spins. This bonus round was worth about 90 bucks. I cashed out after it with an $80 win.

It was time to line up for the show after I cashed out. There was a huge line formed and I turned to Dee and said wow, look at all these people in line. Lucky we don’t have to stand in it. A flash of the diamond card in the VIP line put us in front of everyone. We were actually the first seated.

Shortly after we were seated Yahtzee Mike and Dana arrived. We had our seats moved and all got to sit together. Nathan Burton does a comedy magic show. Some of his stuff was very good. Some of his stuff was lame. During his show he had a guest act come out. His first name was Russ but I don’t recall his last name. He chose 4 people out of the crowd to go upon stage. Unfortunately I was one of those 4. I’d tell you what happened but he put a mask over my head and I couldn’t see what was happening. All I know is Mike, Dana, and Dee were enjoying it. For being up on stage I got a free Nathan Burton DVD. I’d say this was a decent show overall but wouldn’t suggest paying full price to see it. If you can get a 2 for 1 it might be worth it though since regular price is about $50 a head.

When the show let out the 4 of us hung out for a bit getting a game plan and dinner plans together. I still have over $30 in comps at Bill’s from previous slot play so e were going to go to the Victorian Room for dinner. Mike and Dana were going to the Gold Coast and we planned on meeting them there later on.

There was about a 20 minute wait until we would be seated so we played some penny slots. I hit a few small bonus rounds on Gold Fish. Dee did better on Kitty Glitter. This was the same machine she won on a few days ago. I lost more on another machine and then we were called for dinner.

I hadn’t been to the Victorian Room in a very long time but the food was always good here. I ordered off the Chinese Menu and got the BBQ pork loin and a wonton soup. Dee got a turkey sandwich. The food was great and my comps covered the entire bill.

After dinner we walked down to Imperial Palace. I had 2 things to do here. One was to earn a few points on my card. I had a coupon good for $100 cash if I played at 2 Harrah’s properties. I earned my points and then went to the Total Rewards booth to get my coupon validated then off to the cage with no issues other than a Total Rewards clerk not knowing how to handle the coupon.

While we were here we also played some match plays. Dee won hers but I lost mine taking our record this trip to 31 for 53. I wanted to play more coupons but there weren’t many tables open so we left and headed Bill’s to get the car and go to Gold Coast to meet up with Mike and Dana.

When we got to the Gold Coast the first thing we did was burn 2 match plays on the roulette wheel. We lost both of them and were now 31 for 55.

We found Mike and Dana playing video poker and then me and Dee went and played some penny slots. I didn’t do well but kept from losing much. We all wanted to play blackjack together at a table but all the tables were pretty jammed up. We decided we would all leave and go downtown to Main Street Station.

When we all got there we scouted out the tables and they were pretty full too. A walk over to the California showed the same thing so we went back to Main Street Station and eventually got onto a $5 double deck game. We all had fun here but there were a few characters at this game. One was this guy that wouldn’t hit a hand he could bust. Not only was that dumb but from time to time was standing on soft totals. I saw him stand on a soft 15. Then later Mike had a pair of aces. He laid them on the table and put the extra money out to split them. It was this guy’s turn to go before Mike’s and he was worried about taking Mike’s 10’s so he held. After the dealer made her hand she revealed this guy’s cards and he had a soft 14. What an ass. Another guy told Mike he shouldn’t split aces again a dealer card of 7 or higher. Great, we had another effing genius offering advice.

The table was pretty steady for the most part but then I caught a huge losing streak while everyone else held their own. I went from being even to down $150 flat betting $10 a hand. I took a break to get away from the table and went to see Ronnie in the Triple 7 for a few minutes. I went over to the Boar Bar to see Bob but he was on break. I returned to the table to continue the pounding but then things came back. Mike and Dana left and Dee cashed out with a tiny win. I stayed in and played a bit more. I was within $20 of breaking even but then it turned again. I quit the session down $100 after we played 3-4 hours so I guess this wasn’t too bad of a session when you consider how choppy it got.

We were both hungry now so we were going to go to the Cal Coffee Shop for something to eat but the line was super long. Instead we went back to Main Street Station and I got a comp from the pit for the Triple 7. I had my favorite meatloaf dinner and Dee had nachos. My food was great as it always has been here. We also got some Cheesecake to go.

On the way out we stopped off at the bar to see Bob for a few minutes and then headed back to the Rio. By the time we got to bed it was close to 4:30am. While this is no big deal to me, it’s VERY late for Dee especially when you consider she likes to get up at that hour of the day!

Total win/loss for the day $0
Total comps for the day $249
