Day 1
December 13, 1999

Flew out of Stewart-Newburgh on American Airlines. The base price for this ticket was $400. But I had a $100 voucher, which I got last year when American screwed me by discontinuing my flight without telling me. After the voucher was deducted they for some reason took the tax off the price too. This brought the ticket down to $262. This is a great price out of this airport and the best part is it’s only 4 miles from where I live and less than a mile from where I work. I parked the car at the plant and had one of the guys drive me up to the terminal. The flight from Newburgh to Chicago-OHare left on time at 4:30pm and was uneventful. We landed in Chi-town about 30 minutes early. Of course I requested a window seat NOT on the wing but ended up on the wing anyway. Not only on a wing but in front of an emergency row so the seat doesn’t recline either. We left Chicago on time and were scheduled to land at McCarran in Las Vegas at about 35 minutes early but there was a lot of air traffic and we had to circle for about 20 minutes. We were way out by Jean and I could see the Gold Strike and Nevada Landing. It was amazing I could see since once again I was in a window seat but of course I was on the friggen wing in an emergency row again. There was a small meal served on this flight which consisted of the airline famous turkey cheese wrap by Jennie-O, a bag of Ruffles and a Chocolate Chip cookie from Cheryl & Co.

Finally we landed in Las Vegas. American is in terminal D at McCarran so it’s a long way to the main terminal and baggage claim. By the time I got to baggage claim my suitcase had just popped out. Now this was timing!

Went outside to catch the Alamo shuttle to pick up my car. Had a great price of $252 for a full size car for 2 weeks and I had a coupon for one free day which was worth $18. Got there and there was no line. Just had 2 people in front of me. Within 5 minutes I was up at the counter getting my car. Of course they tried to sell me an upgrade for $8 a day. Not a bad deal but over a 14 day period this is another $112 before the 23% in taxes that get added on. I took my full size, which ended up being a Chevy Malibu.

Got into my car and headed out to the Strip and down to the Stardust for a 2 night complimentary stay. I don’t play much here and this comp was not based on my play. The Vice President and General Manager of the Stardust offered it to me based on a letter I wrote them about what a dump the Motor Inn was and how terrible the Warehouse Buffet was last year when I stayed there on a complimentary offer. Some of you may remember my report about that incident and how I wrote a letter directly to Boyd Gaming, which was forwarded to the Stardust. The offer also included a coffee shop meal to make up for the piss poor buffet I ate last year. There was hardly any traffic on the Strip at all. Took only a few minutes to get there. Got to check in and since it was around 10pm there was no line. I got to the counter and the clerk wished me a happy birthday and told me I had been upgraded to a suite. Things were starting off good already. The only thing that wasn’t in order was the free meal I had coming. The check-in staff told me to call Alice of John Miner’s office about this in the morning. I was on the 11th floor and as I got to room 11115 I was beginning to think this room was going to be huge since there were no doors on the wall for quite a distance. Well I was right. This was a great room. It had a small entryway, which led to the living room portion of the room. It had a coffee table, couch, armchair, footrest and end tables. There was also a bar area with a sink, refrigerator, and coffee maker. The bedroom portion of the room had a king size bed, 2 nightstands, TV cabinet/dresser combo and a dinner table. There were also 2 sets of big windows with a great view of the strip. From the bedroom there was a hallway with a set of dressers leading to the bathroom. The bathroom in this room was larger than some hotel rooms I’ve actually stayed in. There was a large counter where the sink was. There was a standing shower that was quite large with a glass door and a bench in it. There was also 2 showerheads in here. One was regular height and one was about waist high. They both would work at the same time but I really don’t know what purpose the lower one served. Maybe they designed this shower with midgets in mind. In the corner of the room there was a Jacuzzi tub and mirrors running the length of the wall. Over in the other corner of the room was the toilet area, which also had a table next to it. One thing I found kind of strange though. With all this room had to offer there was no hair drier in the bathroom. There was a phone next to the toilet but there was no hair drier. Seemed kind of weird to me.

After getting unpacked and settled into the room I had to make use of the Jacuzzi tub. Afterwards watched a little TV and went to bed. Didn’t even gamble tonight since I was really tired at this point. It was 1am in Las Vegas, which was 4am my time and I was beat.

Total win/loss for the day $ 0
Total comps for the day $49
