Finally we landed in Las Vegas. American is in terminal D at McCarran so it’s a long way to the main terminal and baggage claim. By the time I got to baggage claim my suitcase had just popped out. Now this was timing!
Went outside to catch the Alamo shuttle to pick up my car. Had a great price of $252 for a full size car for 2 weeks and I had a coupon for one free day which was worth $18. Got there and there was no line. Just had 2 people in front of me. Within 5 minutes I was up at the counter getting my car. Of course they tried to sell me an upgrade for $8 a day. Not a bad deal but over a 14 day period this is another $112 before the 23% in taxes that get added on. I took my full size, which ended up being a Chevy Malibu.
Got into my car and headed out to the Strip and down to the Stardust for a 2 night complimentary stay. I don’t play much here and this comp was not based on my play. The Vice President and General Manager of the Stardust offered it to me based on a letter I wrote them about what a dump the Motor Inn was and how terrible the Warehouse Buffet was last year when I stayed there on a complimentary offer. Some of you may remember my report about that incident and how I wrote a letter directly to Boyd Gaming, which was forwarded to the Stardust. The offer also included a coffee shop meal to make up for the piss poor buffet I ate last year. There was hardly any traffic on the Strip at all. Took only a few minutes to get there. Got to check in and since it was around 10pm there was no line. I got to the counter and the clerk wished me a happy birthday and told me I had been upgraded to a suite. Things were starting off good already. The only thing that wasn’t in order was the free meal I had coming. The check-in staff told me to call Alice of John Miner’s office about this in the morning. I was on the 11th floor and as I got to room 11115 I was beginning to think this room was going to be huge since there were no doors on the wall for quite a distance. Well I was right. This was a great room. It had a small entryway, which led to the living room portion of the room. It had a coffee table, couch, armchair, footrest and end tables. There was also a bar area with a sink, refrigerator, and coffee maker. The bedroom portion of the room had a king size bed, 2 nightstands, TV cabinet/dresser combo and a dinner table. There were also 2 sets of big windows with a great view of the strip. From the bedroom there was a hallway with a set of dressers leading to the bathroom. The bathroom in this room was larger than some hotel rooms I’ve actually stayed in. There was a large counter where the sink was. There was a standing shower that was quite large with a glass door and a bench in it. There was also 2 showerheads in here. One was regular height and one was about waist high. They both would work at the same time but I really don’t know what purpose the lower one served. Maybe they designed this shower with midgets in mind. In the corner of the room there was a Jacuzzi tub and mirrors running the length of the wall. Over in the other corner of the room was the toilet area, which also had a table next to it. One thing I found kind of strange though. With all this room had to offer there was no hair drier in the bathroom. There was a phone next to the toilet but there was no hair drier. Seemed kind of weird to me.
After getting unpacked and settled into the room I had to make use of the Jacuzzi tub. Afterwards watched a little TV and went to bed. Didn’t even gamble tonight since I was really tired at this point. It was 1am in Las Vegas, which was 4am my time and I was beat.
