Day 12
December 24, 1999

Planned on getting up early but didn’t get much sleep during the night so I didn’t. Harrah*s has these toilets that are flushed by turbo engines and make a tremendously loud whoosh. It seemed that every time one of the rooms next to me flushed their toilet I sounded like it was in my room. When the rooms above me flushed their toilet it sounded like it was in my room and when the people under me flushed their toilet it seemed like it was in my room. Left the room way after 12 but screw ‘em. That’s what they get for having paper thin walls. Went to valet to pick up car and they had it there in what may have been near record time. I thought this was pretty good considering it was check out time and the area looked pretty busy.

After getting the car I headed up Flamingo to Sam’s Town where I was going to be staying on the December Magic offer. It was good for 4 complimentary nights (I only used 3) with complimentary food and beverages in all their restaurants and bars. I got there a little too early to check-in. They had a room ready but it was smoking and it was an outside room so I told them I’d wait and hit the casino for a while. I started off with the lucky draw 4 play machines on Bonus Poker. I know there are better plays than this but I like the multi line and the added bonus of the low quads and aces. It also had a much easier strategy than other games. Things were really good here. I was actually glad I couldn’t check-in yet. I was hitting quads left and right including deuces twice (ugh), 3’s twice, 4’s once and aces 3 times. I hit 2 sets of quad aces within 5 hands. I also hit a straight flush. I finally quit playing after over 5 hours and cashed out up almost $200.

Finally got checked into the room. I was in room 712 with a view of the park. Sam’s rooms are pretty basic for the most part but are nice. There was one thing during check-in that pissed me off though. They would not accept my credit card because it expired at the end of the month. I asked her why they would do something like that and she said she thought it was wrong to do but that it was Sam’s policy and told me she even asked her legal department and they said they were allowed to do that. Fortunately I carry more than one card with me. This pissed me off more on principle than anything else. As soon as I have a chance I will be contacting the credit card company about this as well as Boyd Gaming.

After getting settled into the room I went to dinner at Smokey Joe’s café. I had the ribs, which were good but not as good as the ones I had at The Hard Rock a few days earlier. After dinner looked around for some video poker to play. I sat down at what seemed to be the world’s slowest deuces wild machine. It was putting me to sleep it was so slow so I cashed out with a $20 profit and looked for something else to play. I decided to sit down at one of those vacuum cleaner bonus deuces machines. It sucked up the first $20 with almost no hits at all. Dropped another $20 into it and was still getting dealt a bunch of crap with very few deuces. It was just deal the hand and dump the hand. Getting tired of playing this tight machine I figured I’d just play off my last few credits and try something else. I was dealt another shit hand that I dumped and what popped up? 4 deuces for $500. Got my hand pay and ran like hell from that machine. Went to a progressive bank of 9/6 Jack and on the very first hand I hit quad deuces. Ouch, only 125 coins. Played for a little while but ended up losing in the end. Tried some dollar video poker. Played for about 45 minutes and cashed out up $80. Decided to quit playing for the day. I won about $700-$800 on video poker today and ran over $13,000 through the machines.

Total win/loss for the day $750
Total comps for the day $ 59
