Day 5
Friday March 31, 2000

Up early and ready to move over to the New Frontier. Packed up everything and ran downstairs to Java in the Park for one last comped “meal” with my gold card. 2 donuts and a Snapple iced tea. $4. Ouch. Sure glad I wasn’t paying for that one. After eating my breakfast I headed over to the Town Hall and cashed out my points on my slot card. I ran over $40,000 through the machines this trip and got $38 cash back. Ran back up to the room and grabbed bags and headed out to the strip to check into the New Frontier.

I got to the New Frontier a little early and the room I had reserved (the same room I had in December) wasn’t ready yet so the girl at the desk put me in a different one. All the rooms in the Atrium are the same at the New Frontier although some are a bit beat up more than the others are. This room was fine though. I had a view of the back lots of the property as well as the Fashion Show Mall, Treasure Island, Venetian, Mirage, Rio and if you looked out the window from just the right angle you could even see the Orleans. I also had a view of the Elvis-O-Rama museum.

The suite has a separate living room and bedroom area. The living room had a couch, arm chair, coffee table, end table, console TV, eating table with chairs, counter area with a small sink, coffee maker, and a fridge. There's a short hallway leading to the bedroom and there is a walk in closet in this hallway. The bathroom is in the hallway too. The bathroom was average in size and didn't really offer any extras. The bedroom was quite large but had no real extras either. It had a king bed, night stands, dresser and a TV cabinet. There was also an extra sink in the bedroom that had a hair drier on it.

After getting settled in I had about ½ hour to go play some video poker before I had to be at the Imperial Palace to meet T and D. Didn’t do anything on VP and headed up to IP and then headed downtown. I had a reservation at Main Street Station. It was for 2 comp nights that I didn’t need but the offer came with some free buffets and 2X points during the stay. We were also going to meet VG and his wife CC there too.

After I checked in I tried some bonus poker on the 4 play machines. I was lucky enough to hit 2 quads and got 2 scratch cards. One card was for $5 and one for $2. The one thing I don’t like about the scratch card promotion is the long waits there can be to get them. I guess for free money though it’s worth the wait. I got up quite a bit but then cashed out even. Actually if you count the scratch cards I won $7. After cashing out we all met up with Gary and CC then went our own ways. That was the last I saw of VG and CC that night. Me, T and D all went to Fremont Street. They played some slots in the 4 Queens and I just wandered around and watched. I took my free play on their promotional video poker machine and of course, lost again! After some play there we went back to Main Street Station for the comped buffets. It was seafood night and its $15 a person, so my comp was worth $30 for 2 of us and one meal had to be purchased. I’ve heard this buffet is very good. It was a nice buffet as far as I was concerned but I’m not a big seafood fan. As I have always found with buffets is no matter how good they are there is one thing they have in common. Many of the foods are either cold or dried out.

After dinner I went to Binion’s Horseshoe to play some blackjack. I lost $500 in pretty short time and moved to another table. I was up to being totally even at one point and things were going good. That is until I bumped up my bets and lost 8 in a row. I was kind of aggravated at this point and we all met up and went outside and watched the light show on the Fremont Street Experience. It was the country music one. After the light show we headed back up the Imperial Palace. T played a little bit here and then we went over to the Flamingo. All 3 of us played slots which, as you may know already are not really my games of choice. After losing about $80 here I moved over to the Blackjack tables and they continued to play slots. Things were up and down here and seemed to vary by dealer. The first dealer I was doing ok with but then when she left the next dealer was pulling what seemed to be a 21 just about every hand. After she left things came back nice. This dealer was breaking and only ending up with 17’s. I started making a big comeback here. Just as things started getting good we got another new dealer. This dealer was even better than the first. I started getting blackjacks and winning my hands. I even bumped up my bets and got ahead for a while. T and D came over and said they were going to go up to their room and we made plans to meet tomorrow afternoon. It was now almost 2am but there was no way I was leaving yet. Things continued to be good and I was the only one left at the table. Dealers changed again, this time for shift change. It was now 4am. This dealer started out good but then things turned and I ran before I could give back everything I won earlier. The swings at this table were really bad as at times I was up as much as $700 and down to as little as only $200. I finally cashed out with an $1100 win and went back to the New Frontier to get some sleep.

Total win/loss for the day $ 0
Total comps for the day $290
