Day 6
Monday July 17, 2000

Up early as I have been doing most of the week and went to the pool. I tried to read the newspaper but it was too windy and it kept folding up the paper so I just listened to some CD’s instead. After sitting in the sun for a while I jumped in the pool. The water was not too cool and it was refreshing. As I was walking through the pool I stepped on something. It felt a bit slimy and all I could think was EWE. I took a look down to see what I had stepped on and saw that it was green. I then realized that it was MONEY! I quickly dove down to the bottom and grabbed it. When I got back to the top I counted my win and it was $2. Damn, I’m even a winner when I go swimming!

After my pool win I went up to the room to get ready for the day. I have lunch planned with Gary and CC up at Sunset Station today. We would be meeting at the bar in the middle of the casino. When I arrived VG and CC were there and they were talking to Shirley and Laurie from MA. It was kind of like a mini meet. After spending some time with them VG, CC, and me went to lunch. I got a comp from the kiosk. You get a 10% discount on your point redemption when you use this machine. They both had coupons good for $10 off their meals. Sunset treats the locals very well and sends them all kinds of great deals. Too bad they don’t do that for those of us that travel over 2,000 miles to get there. The food here is always good. I had the chicken finger appetizer and the prime rib sandwich. The fingers were really good and the sandwich was ok. I finished it of with a piece of Tiramisu for dessert.

After lunch we all played some video poker. I lost $20 but I did get over $1,000 in play on it. VG and CC didn’t do well either. We all left at about 5pm and I headed back down to the Stardust to get a little rest before heading out for the evening.

While I was in the room I was watching Jerry Springer. This was a classic Springer episode where this guy was on the show to tell his girlfriend he had been cheating on her. His reason for cheating was that she was too big for his liking. When they brought her out she was about 5’6” and about 110 pounds. The crowd booed him and didn’t understand what he was talking about when he said she was too big. Then they brought out the girl he was cheating with and it was a midget. Jerry Springer at it’s best! OK, enough of this, lets get back to Las Vegas.

At about 8:00 I went out to the Fiesta. They are running triPPPle points today. When I got there the big sign out front said 5X points on Sundays in July. Dammit. I missed out on this yesterday but they hadn’t advertised this anywhere. If I had known this I would have been here last night instead of at Palace Station. Oh well. At least I was getting triPPPle points today.

My first move was to the half-dollar full pay Deuces Wild machine but that was being played. Then I tried for the 10 coin 25-cent Deuces Wild and those were full too. Even all of the single line progressives were full. I eventually found a 50-play machine in the far back corner of the new part of the casino. I played on nickels and things were up and down here. I was into the machine for $300 without much action but was holding on.

Finally after about 2 ½ hours I hit a royal flush on line 45 with a 2-card hold. About 30 minutes later I hit one on line 30 and about 30 minutes after that I hit another one on the main line with a 3 card hold. That had me up a little bit now. Other highlights of this session were hitting 7 straight flushes and pulling quad aces 23 times. I still have not been dealt a quad on one of these machines. I cashed out up $125. The hand pay took over 20 minutes but when I got paid off I got a small bonus. My actual hand pay was $425.25. They round off here so I was paid $426. A few casinos in town do this and I guess if you wanted you could go around making 95 cents on the dollar if you had the time. It’s probably not worth it though. I ran over $18,000 through this machine tonight racking up over 54,000 points. Too bad it wasn’t a 5X points day.

I went back to the Stardust and read the newspaper I bought earlier in the day. A few of the stories of the day were that the Rio is not making nearly as much money as Harrah*s had planned. The Aladdin will open on time. There was also an article that said the laws of Nevada say that everyone is allowed in the high limits gaming areas of the casino. It’s not just for high rollers so if you want to go take a walk through there you’re allowed as long as you don’t disrupt the action. I had a quick snack and then went to bed around 2am.

Total win/loss for the day $100
Total comps for the day $67
